They didn't move Pedroia to 2nd because they needed a 2nd baseman.

They moved him to second because he lacked the range to play SS, sport.

I don't recall the situation. I thought they had a SS (Renteria?) and needed a 2nd baseman.

I also think they had Hanley R. at SS for the future. I would guess Pedroia's range at SS is good enough to finish out the season-compared to what they have. But they would have to find a 2nd baseman--they don't have another good one in the minors. So, it's a bit far-fetched.

I'm sure Theo's looked at getting Harang. I could go for a guy like him if we want to make a move to try to keep us at the top of the wild card.

its far-fetched because he is our second basmen and that is where he will stay, why take an allstar and GG caliber 2nd basmen to SS where he will be mediocre so we can find a mediocre 2nd basmen that makes 2 mediocre spots instead of 1 great 2B and a mediocre SS...dont settle for mediocrity

Hey' date=' has anyone heard anymore news on the waiver deal???? i think it would be a great pick up for the time being.[/quote']

The last and only thing I've heard is that the rumor may be false. I think we're outside the window where a deal gets done anyway.

Hardy just got optioned to AAA. He could be had very easy this off season. Putting him in AAA and letting Escobar take over might really bring down his value. I say get him. If he rebounds sign him long term. If he doesn't, then let him walk.

I'm inclined to agree. If he gets his bat back he's our answer at SS, if he doesn't he's still better than Green.

This version of Hardy hits and fields better than Green.

Imagine if we could get the 2008 version back.

I can't believe it took this unmitigated disaster @ SS for people to Jump on Hardy's bandwagon:lol:

Can you imagine if the Sox got him last off season. No Green or Woodward. Ans Lowries injury wouldn't have been such a problem:D

Hardy's demotion definitely gives the Sox a window to get him. And he should come at a discount as well. If Hanley isn't attainable, I say go after him.

I say forget Hanley for the time being. Use those prospects to get a top line SP. let's for argument sake say the choice of a deal was prospects for Hanley. Or the Sox bring in Hardy, and use those prospects to bring in someone like Felix. or another top tier pitcher. I'd take Hardy+SP over just Hanley.

Of course they could get Hanley and sign a SP as well.

 you know Theo is still GM right? I dont see Theo being aggressive regarding Hanley, I do however see him grabbing a player like Hardy and being a bit more agressive for a decent pitcher like Harden.

Sorta depends on how the rest of the season goes. Theo's most aggressive offseason -- by FAR -- followed a season in which the Red Sox did not make the playoffs.

If we miss the playoffs or show so many flaws that we wind up with a first round exit from the playoffs I actually expect Theo to be very active on the market again.

I have the same theory.

well hopefully Theo shows the cunning hes had in the past and manages to match his conservatism with Prospects with his ingineuity and with the balls to be aggressive enough to pull off some big deals.

It's too early for my off season predictions. Although I have given it some thought:D Should be interesting to say the least.

Regarding players like Hanley R. and Adrian G., Epstein tends to get hung up trying to get guys who are out of reach. He's better off focussing on more available targets at the trade deadline. They could have used another SS--almost anybody who can play defense.

I think part of their problem is they are using 12 pitchers, which cuts down your bench and leaves you vulnerable to injuries.

That extra pitcher is more of a need than a luxury in this league.

Especially with the advent of LOOGYs and ROOGYs, in addition to the specialization that had already existed.

12 pitchers is part and parcel with being in the American League with its DH rule and less need for multiple pinch hitters.

my biggest concern this offseason has to be the Sox bringing Jason Bay back his contract is up and he's a player they CANNOT afford to let walk away.

The man is setting the world ablaze in St. Louis.

I doubt Bay would want to walk and I think he will have more than sorted it out by the time his contract comes up. If he did WANT to leave however then I can think of much bigger losses. This is not to say I would want him to go but that maybe he is not as irreplacable as your post suggests.

I gotta think one will go to the Yankees, the other will go to the Sox....which probably means the Yankees will sign both

LOL:lol:

I have to think St. Louis will be in the running for Holliday. And who knows. If Toronto can shed Wells contract in some capacity, they could theoretically make a run at Bay.

But more then likely, the Yanks sign both. Reddick gets a chance in LF. And the Sox make the major acquisitions via the trade market.
