Wow do you have to be such a douche?

The Yankees sucked as much offensive ass as us last night.

Not quite as much. We DID lose the game after all. Also because of those 3 innings by Aceves, they have a much stronger bullpen going into tonight. Another short outing by Buchholz makes a sweep not just possible, but likely. As it is we'll have a difficult job closing anything out tonight even if Buck gives us 6 strong innings.

Fantastic use of logic.

You think I want to be swept? It's just the way the land lies now. If Buchholz tanks, AGAIN, then we are going to be going into the final game with nothing left of the pen against a lineup that likes to work the count and wear down the starter. It won't be that difficult for the Yankees to neutralize Lester.

We desperately need at LEAST a quality start from Buchholz. And that would qualify as his best start in more than a year. More than you can reasonably expect in other words.

By a f***ing mile.

This series looks like an easy split to me.

I do too.

I just think it's one of those games we lose 2-1, 3-2.

Buchholz hasn't pitched well in over a year. He has been pretty bad so far this season (6.05 ERA, averaged less than 5 innings) and you expect him to pitch well against the best lineup in baseball, in Yankee Stadium, on a 4 game losing streak. Are you insane?

I hope Buchholz pitches well, but logic tells me he won't.

This team actually reminds me a lot of last years team (not shocking). They are a good team, good enough to keep me watching but not good enough to have me convinced that they should win it all.

At this point, a playoff appearance would be a real victory--anything can happen in the playoffs and there would of course be a chance.

Kilo is right, their schedule is killer right now. The good thing about that is we get to see what they're made of and get an early idea of what the rest of the season will look like. They don't need to win every game or even dominate, but if they can somehow make it out of the series with Detroit still ahead of the Wild Card then they might be okay.

A700, I agree with you that not landing Teixeira is a clearly franchise-changing problem. Cliff Lee is a typical example of you piling on because it is convenient. You don't know what Cleveland was asking for to get him and I personally don't think he would be the difference between the Sox winning the WS this year.

Another huge problem for this team that a lot of people just completely dont' mention is that Matsuzaka has been out. It's good that he's out, because he sucked earlier this year, but last year's Dice-K (despite what a lot of you want to argue) did not suck.

He was ranked 30th in WARP in 2008, just behind impact players like Kinsler and Hamilton. His need for some time on the DL this year may have been predictable, but given his track record I think it would be hard to predict that his level of suck would be so high as to literally have killed this team while he pitched.

Example, I dont see how you could say that this sox team looks like last yrs. Last yrs team had Pedroia playing MVP caliber ball, something he isnt doing this yr. They also got SOMETHING out of Ortiz last yr, which is an improvement over what they have now and Drew was not nearly as bad. On the pitching side, they were really healthy, something that is the obviously glaring problem on this team. I think the 2009 team shares a significant resemblance to the 2006 team. Loaded for bear, but key contributors are underachieving and injuries are sapping a lot of potential from the club.

In terms of this recent stretch. I agree that it will show the sox what they are made of. The problem with that is, right now, they are missing so many good players that they will likely finish this run out of a playoff spot altogether. If DiceK was back or Wakefield was healthy, then I would agree that it is a good chance to gain some ground on the better teams in the game. But when you are truly dealing with a 2 man rotation and 60% of suck vs the best teams in baseball, you will typically prove that you are not very good. Which is what the sox are proving right now with their recent 4 game slide and daunting schedule ahead

Honestly this team reminds me more of 2005 than 2006. Right down to plugging in one year veterans into half the rotation.

Nah, you misread or I misstated. I think they remind me of last years team because they don't feel like a World Series club. Not because I think they are really good. I think last years team either achieved what they were capable of or overachieved a bit.

This team reminds me of 2009 Mets. Only worse - because Mets have most of their starting line-up on DL while this team has most regular position players playing. So this team will not get any better.

I think he would have been a difference maker. Put him at the top of the rotation with beckett and lester and that would have been very formidable. I don't know what you mean about piling on. Who is here reading our posts that I would be piling on? I expressed my opinion about getting a top starter way in advance of the trading deadline. Lee certainly fits that description. The Phillies did not give up that much for him. There is no reason to believe that we could not have put together a better package.

If we get swept by the Yankees and we are still in the lead for the wild card, I really will not feel that bad. How much worse could things get than losing 6 in a row to the Rays and Yankees? Things have to get better from there. Clay's outing was encouraging. We have rid ourselves of the human forfeit, Smoltz. Maybe Dice K will come back strong in September and help them go on a run.

Is... is that you a700hitter?

I'm in the same boat with you. The last two games are inexplicable losses, they deserved to lose because their offense was nowhere to be seen.

Between Wakefield and Dice-K there is at least potentially something to look forward to, but if this offense can't muster more they are dead in the water.

I've been trying to tell you for years that your pre-conceived notions regarding me are erroneous. I'm far too complex for someone to be able to size me up on an Internet forum.:D But I have enjoyed your attempts.:D

With your new more complex approach and your optimistic outlook you might quickly become my favorite poster.

One nice thing about the Yankees beating the snot out of the Sox is that it gives me a chance to take a deep breath and put baseball on the side for a few days. Yes, I'll watch, but I won't expect much. Perhaps this team will get to the playoffs; if that is the case then Kudos. If not then I look forward to seeing what aggressive steps are taken to improve them moving forward. They missed Teixeira, so who comes next?
