I didn't bring it up this time. It's called discussion.

The Sox went to Texas because they were the favorites to sign MT. That meeting, for whatever reason, killed their chances.

JWH sending out that pissy email was probably the worst thing he could have done.

It was over at that point already. He said talks were dead, right? And they were. So presumably the e-mail was a symptom rather than a cause, no?

Saying the Yankees would have the last minute chance to match any offer is baseless conjecture' date=' and is an excuse RSN will have to hang their hat on for the next 7.5 years.[/quote']

Scott Boras making the last call to the team with the deepest pockets is baseless conjecture?

For all of the people arguing with me on the Tex thing...if their #1 priority was getting Tex, and they didn't get Tex, how could that be considered anything other than a failure?

Because the circumstances (or rules of the game, if you will), changed at the 11th hour.

You want to stomp around and cry 'FAILURE', be my guest.

It's the bottom of the 6th...is it time to pull Penny yet? Not that I'm sure we have tons better options right now, w/the bullpen tired from last night.

Time will tell. Their quest to get Teixeira was a failure. Their offseason? We will see.

The only reason I keep responding to this discussion is because you put the place of blame squarely on the Sox FO.

I disagree that...

1) Mark Teixeira was lying when he said that the placed they hoped to go all along was NY.

2) If the Sox spent Yankees money the deal would have been signed and sealed in Texas

I also suspect that...

The Sox were not aware that the Yankees were really interested in Teixeira

and

They were not given a final chance to make a deal when the Yankees made their offer (a factor of Teixeira actually wanting to be in NY more than BOS).

I'm happy to let the discussion die though.

I agree with most of what you wrote in this post, but this is silly. They had a hole at first base in the offseason. If they don't get Teixeira who do they have at 1B right now? Shelley Duncan?

If anyone didn't go into this offseason FULLY aware that the Yankees would do anything within their power to put pinstripes on Teixeira, they weren't paying attention.
