Never mind me. I clearly don't understand what an option is.

If that is the case then good. We still don't know how Smoltz is going to work out. And anything can happen to a starter in the next ten weeks.

Well' date=' it ain't gonna happen, because the FO doesn't see the wisdom in the move either.[/quote']

We shall see. The front office could very well trade Penny. The front office won't be making any moves now, they still have plenty of time to assess their needs and strengths.

I think it is more likely that they will trade Buchholz, because getting Halladay would probably net back to back championships.

I don't see the Sox making a big splash in trades this season. Maybe a minor move.

Who the f*** really knows?

Nobody. But that doesn't stop the arm chair GM's out here.

The Jays aren't letting people talk extensions before a trade and getting Halladay without a chance to get a contract extension first would be horribly stupid. We'd have to give up all our best prospects for a guy who could essentially opt out of his contract by demanding a trade after the end of this year. And if we don't trade him, he'd become a free agent.

Yeah, I don't see the Red Sox acquiring any pitchers, that's for sure. I wouldn't be surprised to see them get another bat though, maybe just a bench player.

I think it's very encouraging that Lowell has come back hitting. I did not expect that.

This game is depressing me further. I'm just trying to add something positive.

Yeah, I haven't seen him play much defense, but I have to assume with the way he's running that his defense hasn't improved any.

You got that right Sistah!

The speculation and discussion is pretty fun. As long as everyone is nice to each other.

This loss will suck big time.

Yeah, what will make it even worse is that the Yankees are currently winning by a run that they acquired when Melky Cabrera was thrown out at first, on what should have been the 3rd out, but the umpire blew it. And the Yankees other run was an A-Rod pop up into the first row of seats in right field.

I expect him to be nothing more than what we have seen so far this season. He'll make some really nice plays on balls hit near him, but his range will continue to limit his overall defense.

Too bad. Because really, he is a very talented 3rd baseman.

I have to say, the Jays made the right call sending Tallet (who we would have seen in this game) to the bullpen yesterday. The lefty they started today did very well.

Yep, not a pretty game. I'm psyched about Lowell too and hope it lasts!

Hang in there Spud, we'll get 'em tomorrow.

Be careful Dutch. You are starting to sound Jacksonian!:o

Does Halliday (SP?) go tomorrow? Hmmmm.

The Sox SEEM to do OK against him. But the way they are hitting now, tomorrow looks bleak.

But without him it'll be no world championships?

They'll do fine, should have the normal line up in there tomorrow and Lester's on the hill.

Whatever you say....

Because he singed a multi-year extension prior to 2006, he has the ability to demand a trade after this season (mid contract) if he's traded. And if we didn't trade him, he'd become a free agent March 15th.

Do you really want to trade our best prospects for what could potentially be a 3 month rental?

Yup, Lester vs. Halladay tomorrow which I think is a pitching matchup that favors us. He has a career 4.46 ERA against us and he's struggled lately (ERA over 5 this month). Lester's pitched well against the Jays and he done some of the best pitching of his career lately (1.48 ERA since June 1st).

Hopefully we'll get the game in the standings right back.

A700, I think you are missing the point with starting Buchholz over Penny. It's all in the upside. Buchholz's worst case scenario is basically the same as Penny. The difference is upside. Buchholz has the potential to dominate in the majors (as he did in 07 and has all season in AAA). Penny really doesn't have that upside right now. His best starts have been 6IP, 2-3ER. On the flip side, Penny has had a bunch of awful outings (including this one today). I mean, Clay, in his one start this season, performed as good as Penny's best start this season.

It's a complete risk/reward. I think Clay is at no worse a risk as Penny, but he has a much greater reward.

Also, I'm not so sure I'd want to trade or Halladay. If it was Buchholz straight up, than, yeah, I'd take it. However, it will likely take a lot more than just Buchholz and I'm not sure it would be worth it. Halladay is 32. We would likely have about 4 (+/-) more dominant season from him. With Buchholz, we could have yet another future Ace for the next 10 years, plus the other prospects we'd still have that would have been included in the trade.
