If we want Bates out of the lineup would we could do is play Ortiz at 1st and then DH Baldelli. Kotsay should be back soon though hopefully' date=' and then it won't be an issue.[/quote']

I don't think Francona would even consider playing Ortiz in the field

I cant decide what's who is worse: Lugo or Bates, probably Lugo because he sucks at everything, not just hitting. However, Bates makes me wish Jeff Bailey wasn't hurt and Bailey is an AAAA player that is hitting .208 in majors.

I don't see what is so objectionable about Bates at 1st. We have no options right now. He seems OK defensively and has demonstrated some potential at the plate (albeit at AA).

I say give the kid a chance until Kotsay is well enough to play.

The game isn't for another 2 hours and it looks relatively clear west of Boston. But sometimes that stuff circulates for hours once it hits the ocean.

Take another look at the "future" map. It looks like it will clear up for a bit around 6:30ish, but then another storm system will come in soon after (8:00ish). I hope that doesn't mean playing 2 innings and then having a 3 hour rain delay/PPD.

He was struggling in AAA (I know it was a small sample size) and didn't look good at the plate yesterday. I'm not going to say he's horrible yet, but I really don't want to see our 4th option at first base starting, the injuries at the corners are start to hurt right now. I really hope the Sox go out and make a trade for a decent part time player who is at least serviceable, like the often mentioned Mark Teahen.

Yeah' date=' as much as last game sucked, I'm going to pass it off as just one game. It doesn't seem like we've been hitting mediocre pitching lately, but I think that's been compounded by our own pitching's struggles. Seattle leads the AL in ERA at [b']3.69[/b] and we twice scored more than 5 runs against them in that series.

Of course if we don't hit Eveland, then I'll be worried.

I'm not worried. But as a team, over the last 4 games, they've batted .193 and all have been home games, which is unusual. They'll get it together and hopefully break out tonight.

According to the futures map, it looks like it will clear up around 6 and then start raining again at 8:30. So theoretically, we should be able to start the game. We'll just have to cross our fingers that it's an official game by 8:30.

If the Yankees can stay close [within 3 games] until the All-Star break, it will get interesting. We're on the road and you're at home. Considering the Red Sox record on the road, you better hope you pad your lead.

The Sox have one of the best road records in baseball Gom. Besides, over the rest of the season the Red Sox have 42 home games, and the Yankees have 39. Plus, the Yankees still have 3 trips to the west coast and the Red Sox are done out there.

Figured we could use a good luck charm after our performance last night, so here goes...

WTF... Is that an old cell phone taped to his shirt?

Not sure, I was distracted by his 4 sweatbands.

Sarcasm?

No. That was 96 mph up out of the strike zone and in on his hands. I have no idea how he pulled his hands in enough to get to it.

it a homer but A) its a solo homer which is better than a 3 run homer B) it was a decent pitch and C) its the only hit they have gotten so its not like hes getting lit up, these past few starts Beckett has needed a little time to warm up

Yeah, I was just thinking how well he was pitching. He was painting the corners with 97 mph fastballs at the knees. He was getting the hitters to bail out on his breaking stuff. Then he throws a fastball up out of the zone, I think the hitter popped it up and it goes out.
