He's capable of it, but A, there was no point in asking him to, and B, his longest relief appearance besides his relief of Matsuzaka is 2 1/3 inning so asking him to complete a third inning wasn't smart.

It was a stupid move and an unnecessary risk.

What the f*** is going on?

We're due for one of these against the Orioles in any given season. I just hope it doesn't go all the way.

I think the way he was mowing down hitters is why he left him in.

Then it was doubly stupid. Basing what he'll do in the next inning on what he did in the last inning is so dumb it's downright Gradyesque. ESPECIALLY with relievers.

So watching a guy have great stuff and control one inning doesn't make you think he can't repeat that the next?

Exactly. Glad you're catching on. You base how you use a reliever on their career projections and what you know about their stuff, poise, and command. Not based on the last pitch they threw.

its a fine line i dont know that asking for another inning from him was real smart but he was doing great so i dont know that it was stupid to do it he just should of took em out as he started to get into some trouble

You're welcome to think so (EDIT: WB...). It was still stupid to bring Masterson in for a third inning when he's only gone more than 2.1 innings of relief once this year and the whole bullpen is rested enough to be used tonight.

No guarantee he coughs it up like this but it certainly does invite the risk, which turned up to bite us this time.

Ya it's a risk but one worth taking with a huge lead. f***ing rain delay.

It's not worth taking when you have an entire bullpen. what's wrong with getting Bard an inning of work? All of your big 5 (Paps, Oki, Saito, MDC, RR) were available too.

If Masterson hadn't already gotten you through the 6th I might feel differently but he'd already done the long man's job.

It'll probably just be "Masterson was throwing good." Maybe a little managerial doublespeak designed to take the blame off Masterson.

but they wont use saito or pap until the 8th unless there is serious trouble...i really dont see any problem with leaving in Masterson, it didnt work out too well but i dont think it was really as "stupid" as you say it was

I'm with Whiskey. It wasn't much of a risk because he's our "long" guy, he should be able to go 2 innings. There's no reason he shouldn't be able to. It just didn't work out.

OKI. You should not need me to tell you this but:

You throw 87. You cannot live above the belt on hitters throwing 87. Get it down.

He did go two. They tried to make him go three.

And here we go a freakin' again. AGAIN Tito tries to squeeze an extra inning. AGAIN it bites us in the butt.
