If that shot doesn't prove he has some legit pop in his bat I don't know what will. But it was an 86MPH FB. Or tired cheese as Ecks put it.

I think he has a lot more power than he shows last year. The majority of last year was an adjustment period for him.

so we're facing another Lefty tomorrow ......does that mean Drew sits again?

We don't face another lefty until the Seattle series.

First batter of the Yankees game, Ichiro gets called out on a 3-2 fastball in the opposite batter's box. Oy vey.

EDIT: Now Joba's throwing out there trying to get the same call and getting upset they aren't giving it to him. Another 3-2 count.

Not that it was a good call, but they said he swung.

I think he made a good swing and made solid contact. I don't think he has developed pop or power all of a sudden. A straight 86 mph fast ball invites such contact. Don't get me wrong. I love the kid. But he's still a work in progress.

Really? He wasn't even remotely close to swinging. That should be back-to-back walks to lead off the first inning.

I don't think he's ever going to be a power hitter. But considering he was in a slump much of last year, I don't think that 9 HR, .394 slugging is the kind of hitter he'll be. He slugged .425 in his young 20's in the minors.

Yeah, and the worst part about it isn't even the bad call. It's that the home plate umpire made the call. He has to defer to the third base umpire there.

Yeah, it always gets me when they try to say the player swung because they're supposed to be watching if the pitch was a strike or a ball. There's no way they can watch the pitch AND see if the hitter swung.

Looked like Ichiro was asking for the 3B ump to make a call. Some umps just have a stick up their ass :dunno:
