He's probably the best player/media guy at the helm of any team in baseball. Could his bullpen management be a little better? Definitely. But he's the perfect manager for the Red Sox. More often than not, he gets the most out of his players. He manages to give them plenty of days of rest, and still be as competitive as any other team in baseball. He really puts us in a good position come October.

i got titos back come fellas....hes the illest coach to hit boston in years....yee i feel we should of won lst season but you cant blame it on him....ortiz had a lack of offense in the postseason...beckett pitches like s*** the whole post season and regular season....lester did good but blew his final start in the post season again the rays....tito is the perfect fit for boston....the players like him and he does give plenty of rest to the players who need it.....8-0 in the world series tell me thats not gangsta

He blends the right mix of people skills and quantitative analysis. And he has a well thought out reason for every decision. Can't ask for more.

Actually, let's talk about this. We saw Francona make moves last night that interest me.

With 2 innings to go we saw all of MDC, Oki, Ram and Pap last night. Rather than making his relievers complete their innings, Tito brought out the big guns one after the other. Of course, Tito still has Masterson, Saito and Bard still available to clean up if we go into the 7th with a narrow lead tomorrow night, but you basically saw Tito using all his weapons to get the win last night.

it's interesting to see how a manager will perform when gifted with the ideal bullpen. Tito has shown that given the ability to do so, he will be aggressive in bringing the guy he wants into the game. and not giving the other team a chance to hurt his pitcher if he can avoid it.

In-game moves are only a facet of the job of manager for the Boston Red Sox

They might just be the least important.

Anyone can learn or be helped in managing a bullpen, not anyone can handle the Boston media with the blunt honesty and patience that Terry Francona does, while never throwing any of his players under the bus and always helping them and supporting them. The media sees as a straightforward gamer who always has a solid explanation for his moves, and the players see him as a friend and father figure who always has their backs.

Those characteristics are invaluable.

If you don't believe it, ask Joe Girardi.

Yeah, there's a bullpen coach, a pitching coach, and a hitting coach for a reason. The manager's main job is mostly to keep the player's motivated and protect them in the media and with umpires.

Horrendous manager of the bullpen. Sticks with veterans for too long, and sometimes will put his worse reliever in the most crucial spots. He's lucky Lopez got axed, because the other six won't make him look bad.

Francona is one of the worst managers in all baseball. We are lucky we managed to win 2 titles with him.

Imagine that?

Hey das! Where ya been? Missed you crapping on Tek every chance you got...;)

He is coming down to earth after his surprising surge of power. In any case - this will probably be his last year with us - so I decided to ease up on him a bit.

Well, it's about time. He'll retire a Red Sox eventually and work for them in some capacity. Can't see him going elsewhere. But, Boras is his agent...:thumbdown

I can't think of a manager i would rather have over Tito, maybe he has some flaws but his flaws are minor and none of them out weigh his pros including his relationships with his players, and you can hardly place any blame on Tito for "poor bullpen management" he has a pitching coach to do most of that and i dont think he is as bad at that as you think, the rays beat us fair and square last year there aren't any excuses that we can use to change that. furthermore it is real easy to play "monday morning quarterback" but i dont think that anything he did hurt our chances in the post season last year
