The Yankees haven't been THAT bad. They're tied for the 3rd best record in baseball. We've just been a lot better. I don't see them as an elite team though. It will be hard for them to match their performance in May, that doesn't look at all like the team we've seen in the other 2 months.

It's really frustrating not knowing why Papelbon has completely given up on his splitter. When are hitter going to start to realize almost all of his pitches are fastballs.

They KNOW most of his pitches are fastballs. But he has so much movement on them that the hitters can't square them up most of the time.

 

As for why he's gone away from his splitter, he's used his slider more in place of his splitter because he feels it takes less of a toll on his arm.
