The guy was not getting around on any of his fastballs, so why would he want to speed up the guy's bat and give him a chance at hitting a hanging splitter?

Papelbon still has the unhittable fastball, but it isnt as untouchable as it was. Now, the guys can foul it off, whereas before, most hitters couldnt make contact with it.

But the guy couldn't hit it. He didn't show that he could get around on it on any of his swings. He was late every single time.
