Eh?

Thanks to Drew for that HR. If only there's been some guys on the bases, too. B)

You're talking about having a cigarette and pestering your husband?

Yes... ? Pester = tease in a relationship-habitual, fun-loving way. Most of the time.

Yeah, I know what pester means. I just didn't know that you wanted to pester hubby. Carry on!

Bard is going to be a dominant closer

It would appear so. A good thing.

Now I'm off a while. Cats, hubby's, squirrels...everyone wants something. :D

swing and a miss for 5 K's in a row

5 K's in 2.1 innings is great. A little early to annoint him a dominant closer, don't you think?

He will need to develop eventually. But his FB is the real deal. Hard and with late movement. He had some good spots today. But he wont be able to leave 98 up and over the plate all the time. If that breaking ball develops into a reliable pitch, he wont be touched.

Nobody can call themselves Rivera 2.0. Mostly because nobody has had the prolonged regular season success followed by the uncanny post season success that Mo has had. Being the best in a single season does not make you Mariano. Hell, Gagne in his prime was better than Mo ever was. But his prime was short. Mo has been in his prime since 1996. Not too many closers can say that.

I wasn't really that serious, but you can't say Bard won't do that until he doesn't. You can't say Joba will dominate for years to come until he does. You can't say that the Rays will win a World Series title until they do.

I'm not saying anyone has been as good as Rivera for so long. I was just using his name as an example of how I won't call Bard the Sox closer of the future until he's pitched more than 20 innings.

This team....is not that good.

They cannot afford the production they are getting from the DH spot.

This is why not landing Teixeira was such a big deal in the offseason.

Umm I know you're probably not looking forlogic here but no it isn't. Teixeira replaces Lowell, not Ortiz, in any scenario where he comes to Boston. There was no way this team was not going to have Ortiz as its fulltime DH at least this long into the season no matter who we signed.

I said all offseason the reason you go and get Teixeira is to counteract any injury/decline that you may experience from Lowell OR Ortiz. If Lowell is down, Youk moves to 3B and Ortiz is your DH. If Ortiz goes down, Lowell becomes the DH.

It's going to suck really badly come July/August when Varitek cools down, Lowell goes into his slump (have you seen his walk rates?!?) and Ortiz continues to suck.

The FO did not address the offensive side of the ball - instead they wished and hoped for rebounds from Lowell and Ortiz.

Bad plan.

To be fair Kilo, nobody predicted THIS bad of a dropoff in Ortiz. I think a reasonable expectation would have been .250 with 20 homers and a good eye. He still has the good eye, but christ almighty, he is completely useless.

And I agree with Dojji. Lowell was gone if the sox got Tex. They were linked with the Angels who are looking for any warm bodied power hitter to play 3b instead of Maicer Izturis.

I agree with that sentiment in principle-that they crossed their fingers and hoped for the best in terms of the lineup, which was not very proactive IMO-I think it's also true that they planned to unload Lowell if they signed Teixiera. Certainly Lowell seemed to think so. In any event, that would not have solved the Ortiz problem, just made it easier to cover up.

To be fair, they are halfway through a ten-game road trip, and this team has some problems scoring runs on the road. Drew hasn't (yet) performed any better than Ortiz in the three spot, and I don't remember the last solid two-out RBI I saw.

Glad you can now read the future. Wouldn't JD be on the DL by then with back issues as well?

I am actually of the opinion that Varitek probably won't keep his HR pace up season long as well, and it's kind of scary to think that a big reason the Sox are doing as well as they are is because of his power.

Lowell still looks like a 2,000-year-old man when he's running. I can't imagine he won't need some time off as the summer really starts to heat up.
