He's not a bad player' date=' but I don't think he's a leadoff hitter. He doesn't get on base enough. Also has zero pop whatsoever.[/quote']

I agree he isn't the best lead-off hitter right now. I' much prefer to have someone like Pedroia lead off. He'll learn to be patient and be on base more as a result. I don't think he'll ever have a lot of pop. Certainly not a lot of homers.

Most players struggle with consistency through the early part of their careers. It's a chess match between pitchers making adjustments and the hitters counter-acting those adjustments. Pedroia was hitting .260 around this time last year.

the strangest thing with Ellsbury, though, is how far he's regressed in terms of patience. Look at this.

Last yr, he was the starting CFer. He walked 27 times in his first 2 months of 2008 in 194PA. (13.9% walk rate)

Outside of those 2 months, he has walked 32 times in 720PA. (4.4% walk rate)

Don't get me wrong on Ells either, I am satisfied with his production so far this year... but not impressed. I consider him the necessary GG center fielder and any production he gives us is a plus. I do expect him to improve over time though.

Good find. That's really odd.

Lacrosse isn't so big around here. By the way' date=' the game is being played seven miles from my house.[/quote']

Interesting. I'm from Needham and lacrosse has been huge around these parts.

That game was insane.

yeah, it makes no sense. He had an OBP of .380 at the start of June but his BA was .270 or something. Now, his BA is higher, but his OBP is lower. If Ellsbury was able to regain that and get back to a .380OBP (regardless of his BA), he'll be a perennial All Star, especially with his speed.

carlos gomez is awesome

Carlos Gomez needed two stitches in his head after getting caught in the revolving door while entering the stadium on Monday.

The latest entrant in the most ridiculous injury of the year contest. According to manager Ron Gardenhire, Gomez was walking through the door when someone came in behind him and the door stopped, but Gomez didn't. Looks like he confused the door for the center field fence. Gomez sustained a cut on his eyebrow, but started on Monday anyway.

Penny's done. He was really' date=' really good through 5.[/quote']

makes me think his endurance isnt where it was. He used to be a horse. Now, after 5, he's a complete and total liability. He might not actually be a bad candidate for the pen after all.

He's been going 6+ fairly regularly.
