What is the report on Pedroia?

 

Manager Terry Francona decided last night after the Red Sox beat the Angels, 4-3, that second baseman Dustin Pedroia would receive a second day off to further heal his strainged groin. When he shared his decision with Pedroia, "he called me a name I can't use here," Francona said.

 

Pedroia could play tonight. He experienced no setbacks, and he looked good taking early batting practice this evening. In an emergency, Pedroia would play tonight. But Francona felt Pedroia and the team would be best served in the long run if Pedroia took one more day of rest.
