Not sure but there becomes a point where it goes from a slump or dry spell to 'this is what we have to work with this year'.

I don't know, but I thought the 20 HR optimism was pretty disturbing. If Ortiz isn't OPS'ing at least .800 by the deadline, then he needs to be traded. None of this, "we luv papi feva :( plzdnt traid him. bill simmons got mad :( now i am mad :("

I see this as a possible massive reaction, which might find its way onto this board. I call for the indiscriminate banning of anyone who displays this kind of logic when that moment arrives.

Yeah, pretty much what Crespo said. I'd rather watch him bounce back with another team and complain about how he's doing well with them than deal with having a guy in the three-spot batting .200 with no jacks in the first round of the postseason.

I still think Ortiz. I don't think he's going to go the whole season. Eventually someone will throw him a meatball that even a struggling hitter can't miss and he'll knock it out in a park with a short RF fence.

JOSH BECKETT

Anyway if there is one thing that annoys me about this town is the amount of attachment people have towards certain players. It makes it awfully hard to make some decisions sometimes. Manny, Pedro, Nomar, Damon, etc. were not exactly clean breakups. Trading Ortiz is going to be a problem if it ever comes to that and dealing with Papelbon will eventually be one also.

f*** Bill Simmons.

If they trade Ortiz, I'll put a bullet into his head, so I can spare everyone from his f***ing poor excuse of journalism.

I enjoy Simmons. He's not the brightest tool in the shed, and I disagree with most of what he says, but most of his stuff is pretty entertaining.

I loathe Bill Simmons, but I find most sports journalism to be f***ing horrendous. ESPN is leading producer of fail, with Page 2 being the heart of beast.

I don't normally read articles for opinion or substance, just for news, but I enjoy page 2 because it produces a laugh here and there.

I've been one of the, if not, the biggest Ortiz apologist in this board so far, but his suckitude is becoming unbearable to watch, there is not much wrong with him mechanically anymore, so why the f*** is he still not driving the ball?

Hell, Julio f***ing Lugo, that rotting sack of FAIL hit his first today, and he has less than half the ABs that Ortiz has!

f***, even Paul Maholm hit a jack today......

If Papi doesn't start producing soon, trade his ass!

Yeah, teams will be lining up for an aging, hurt, former slugger making millions of dollars hitting 200 with 0 homers.

They might if we eat it, or moved a major prospect with him.

Mike Hampton?

Jim Thome?

Anyone?

Anyone?

Didn't they get traded (multiple times in the case of Hampton) while being injured or innefective while in the middle of multi-year, high dollar contracts?

And btw, how'd the Thome trade work for the White Sox?

Have you never watched baseball, sir?

Exactly my train of thought. The only hope is that Ortiz shows some kind of value then they trade him. No team in there right mind would trade anything of value for him right now. I can't think of a dumb enough GM out there. Does Daniel Snyder own a baseball team or just the Redskins?;)

Ever heard of "swapping bad contracts"?

They might if they eat the contract, or if the Red Sox include a top prospect.
