ITS RAININ' SIDEWAYS

Something I found to be delicious is spaghetti with sardine sauce. Basically you mash up some sardines with a little butter' date=' milk or cream, and some onions. The sardines melt into the sauce and you get a creamy pasta dish that tastes like clam chowder. Sounds disgusting but its really really good.[/quote']

I'll have to talk to my brother about that. He loves sardines. Can't stand 'em myself.

back on topic, about as much seafood as you can pack into it with a white wine tomato sauce

Not bad.

As for wine sauces, I can't do that since I'm a Mormon. Is there a non-alcoholic substitue?

Cooking wine in sauces boils the alcohol out of them, does that count?

the alcohol burns away during cooking

Still, a little stays in and some people cant even have it in the house.

You can just use chicken broth instead of wine in recipes. Add a little acidity too like some lemon.

Nice cheap way of convincing us to send you food, huh?

I'm onto you.

Well I was thinking we could post pictures and people could vote on the most appetizing. Maybe get Padma as a guest judge...

Sox lineup for the nightcap . . .

Posted by Adam Kilgore, Globe Staff April 22, 2009 04:40 PM

. . . weather-permitting, obviously.

Just a couple of changes from the first game. Kevin Youkilis moves across the diamond to third base while Mike Lowell gets a break. Jeff Bailey, just up from Pawtucket, gets the call at first base and will bat eighth. And Jason Varitek is behind the plate after George Kottaras caught Tim Wakefield per usual in the opener.

Red Sox

1. Jacoby Ellsbury, CF

2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B

3. David Ortiz, DH

4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B

5. J.D. Drew, RF

6. Jason Bay, LF

7. Jason Varitek, C

8. Jeff Bailey, 1B

9. Nick Green, SS

-- Brad Penny, SP

Yeah, if I was resisting alcohol for culinary reasons that wouldn't wake me squirm, but since I avoid alcohol because I believe God has commanded me to avoid it, I'd rather steer entirely clear.

Thanks. I always toss a bit of chicken bullion into the broth when I boil my noodles along with the butter and salt, I like the flavor it creates.

I bet white vinegar would be a good fit for that sourness.

THat might be fun.

This is great. Hey' date=' what's the weather like up there? Late game or no game?[/quote']

I don't think this one will start at the official first pitch time.

That will change once you get to college.

Well, I've just read the entire 4 pages of pasta talk. As a "newbie", I have to say it was quite enthralling.

I particularly enjoyed the sardine/cream sauce idea. THAT is Italian. Not necessarily what you get in this country, but something you would encounter in Italy.

Don't worry about the alcohol residue, it DOES evaporate when cooking (assuming that you cook it a while). Hence, vodka sauce. Most good red Italian "gravies" have wine in them.

Cinnamon may sound strange, but it is a good idea. It is a component in (pardon the spelling) amatriachiani sauce. This is, once again, a very Italian recipe that incorporates bacon as well.

I like the cook-off idea. I'm in.

I'd be glad to share a recipe. The game seems to be delayed, if not postponed until Thursday. Too bad.

Bruins are down 1-0. The tarp just came off and the scheduled start time is 7:55!!!!

Been there, done that, actually. Spent 4 years in the dorms and I know exactly what you're talking about but you severely my underestimate my capacity for repression.
