Chamberlain and Pettitte. That's the story. I have been concerned for awhile about the rotation, specifically those guys.

Also, I haven't been trying to duck out of taking my lumps here, just haven't had computer access this weekend.

You shouldn't feel called out about those statements.

You don't talk s***, so you don't have to take s***.

I don't think you really have any lumps you need to duck out of. You're a great poster. We just like to give Jacko and Gom a hard time because they troll constantly when the Yankees are playing well and make the most ridiculous comments from "Smoltz and Penny's shoulders are hanging on by a thread" to "the Yankees bullpen is much better than the Red Sox".

I hope people on the site don't give you a hard time just because you're a Yankees fan.

Haha, no, no one really gives me a hard time. Just figured I'd explain myself, because the Yankees have done very well as of late, and I've been here everyday.

Yankees Bullpen so far: 4.53 ERA (131 earned runs in 260.1 innings)

Red Sox Bullpen so far: 3.94 ERA (127 earned runs in 290 innings)

And here is the bullpens as they are in the current depth charts:

Yankees: 3.62 ERA (76 earned runs in 189 innings)

Red Sox: 3.05 ERA (90 earned runs in 265.2 innings)

Career wise:

Yankees:

Rivera - 2.29 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 3.96 K/BB

Bruney - 4.39 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 1.43 K/BB

Hughes - 4.77 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 2.1 K/BB

Coke - 2.42 ERA, 0.885 WHIP, 2.93 K/BB

Robertson - 4.18 ERA, 1.4 WHIP, 2.23 K/BB

Tomko - 4.69 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, 2.07 K/BB

Melancon - 6.35 ERA, 1.77 WHIP, 0.4 K/BB

Red Sox:

Papelbon - 1.84 ERA, 0.99 WHIP, 4.38 K/BB

Okajima - 2.56 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 3.08 K/BB

Saito - 2.17 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 2.08 K/BB

Delcarmen - 3.32 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, 2.27 K/BB

Masterson - 3.65 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 2.03 K/BB

Ramirez - 3.36 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, 2.19 K/BB

Bard - 2.78 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 2.6 K/BB

Pretty clear that the Sox have the better pen across the board.

Not sure where you got that figure.

The Red Sox bullpen has a 3.26 ERA (2nd in the majors) in 252.2 innings.

The Yankees bulllpen has a 4.01 ERA (19th in the majors) in 278.1 innings.

But yeah, Jacko was wrong. Nothing shocking, he's like the Steve Phillips of Yankees fans.

Without Aceves out there, this pen is completely different. We need to rethink the idea of Aceves to the rotation because one of these past 2 games could have been significantly altered with him in the games. Joba and Andy fell apart in the fifth right after Aceves couldnt get through the 4th, so the toll has been high. I'd venture to guess that Aceves gets called up right after the ASB and Sergio Mitre or Ivan Nova could come up and snag that last rotation spot in Wang's stead. Depending on how long they think Wang could be out, we might be in the market for a SP.

I think at the low end would be Jon Garland. 1.50WHIP and a .290BAA, but he averages >6IP and should keep his ERA at or under 5. We need innings more than we need dominance, so he could come cheap.

If we really want to make noise, we could sell our souls for Halladay, but I dont see that happening.

Also, we need to stop tiering the pen past Mariano. These past 2 games, we needed length from the pen. Going 1 inning at a time with guys like Robertson, Melancon and Tomko is not the way to do it, even though I think Robertson and Melancon have a solid future in our pen. Right now, they are going to be hit or miss. We have Hughes who is a converted starter, he can give length and he most certainly could have altered the course of yesterdays game. Especially when the ASB is coming up, you can empty his tank and then guarantee he gets 3 days off. He's fresh tonight for CC, which means he might be used for an inning. It was a poor managerial decision to keep Hughes from either of the past 2 games.

The games would not have been significantly altered. The bullpen pitched 10 innings the last two days, Aceves would have been able to fill 2, maybe 3 of those innings. And that's if he didn't come on in relief the day before for whatever AAA pitcher you would have had to start instead of him.

There is a much easier explanation for why the pen didn't pitch well. Maybe it's because they have the 22nd worst ERA in baseball? In other words, they suck.

LAA has played great with their 2 best sticks on the DL, they got a lot of young guys that can hit and Napoli has a nice bat too for someone who only plays half the time.

How on earth do the Yankees not take the lead there? bases loaded, nobody out and they only get a sac fly and a bloop single? if the Sox did that I'd be frothing at the mouth.

Three games behind the Sox going into the All Star Break.

Gom and Jacko have kicked out their chairs and are swinging by their necks.

Hey Jacko, what were you saying about how Sabathia has pitched as well as Beckett?

Hey Gom, what were you saying about the Yankees being the better team because they were gaining ground on us while they were on the road and we were at home?

Awesome 3 game lead going into the All-Star break. That should take some wind out of those two guy's sails for a few days.

Like I said when the Yankees were beating up on the Twins and had won 13 of their last 15, just wait until they face their kryptonite, the Angels.
