Baseball is a funny game. I'm watching the Tigers vs. the M's. Verlander is facing off with Felix Hernandez. If you watched either of these guys pitch and then watched Joe Saunders or Jeremy Guthrie, you'd say to yourself, "Those guys are legions ahead of the other two". Yet, when you look at their end of year numbers, the two guys who couldn't blow away household dust tend to end up with better stats. And it's not like Verlander or Felix are wild with their dynamite stuff. They tend to hit their spots, and they have at least 3 pitches to keep hitter off balance.

Anyway, Verlander is perfect through 4, and Felix is struggling because the ball keeps finding a hole.

Miguel Cabrera looks unstoppable right now.

3-3 tonight against King Felix, raising his BA to .526.

Mariners take the lead back with some textbook "smartball" and taking huge advantage of Detroit's awful defense.

I would just like to brag on my favorite non-Red Sox player for a second.

Paul Maholm = teh awesome

7 shutout innings vs Atlanta tonight to run his ERA to 0.87 for the season. If he didn't play for Pittsburg he would be getting some serious media love by now. Oh well. Always nice to see him pitch well.

Oh, and I cannot remember seeing this many cycles in so short a period.

yea seriously, Kubel with one last night making that three in less than a week

I have never seen a bullpen so poorly assembled and consistently inept as that of the Washington Nationals.

Cubs/Cards is underway now. I've got St. Louis in this one.

Looks like an early pitcher's duel in the making. 5 out of the first 6 batters have struck out so far. Lohse has been impressive so far this year, and got off to a good start in this game too.

Current batting leaders:

Miguel Cabrera 0.558

Ian Kinsler 0.532

Brian Roberts 0.5

Kevin Youkilis 0.5

Evan Longoria 0.436

Adam Jones 0.489

Robinson Cano 0.468

Jason Bartlett 0.452

Endy Chavez 0.438

Jermaine Dye 0.4

How many of them stay in the top 10 at the end of the season?

I say Youk, Cabrera, and Longoria. Everyone else drops out.

Longoria K's a ton, he's not a huge AVG. guy, Jones chases a lot of bad pitches, it'll change as he matures, but a .300 avg is not a given, Cano has the same problem as Jones.

My top 3 out of those: Cabrera, Youk, Kinsler in that order.

It's strange to think they actually turned out some good players why they where in Montreal. Now they turn out garbage.

Youre damn right they did. Best record in baseball in '94 before the damn strike

the worst team in the modern era are the 2003 Tigers, losing 119 games. its hard to say the Natinals will lose way over 110
