The word is "replacement," idiot, not " successor." In other words, when Drew gets hurt (because he's going to get hurt) the OP was asking if Carter could, temporarily, replace Drew until he recovers.

wow, you have no optimism whatsoever.

Ok, let's play your little childish game. Let's say drew does get hurt, and carter fills in and does really well. Then what happens when Drew comes back?

You know what an option does, right?

Doesn't have the arm or range to play Fenway's RF.

If you want to try Bay in RF, then maybe

Oh really?

Not Drew replacement but he's making it hard for the Sox to choose Wilkerson over him for the vacant bench spot

Mike Lowell, Jason Bay, Chris Carter and Ivan Ochoa hit consecutive homers off Brandon Lyon as the Red Sox beat the Tigers 7-6 on Monday.

Lyon would have been just the third pitcher in major league history to give up four straight homers had it happened in a regular-season game. The last time it happened was April 22, 2007, when the Red Sox pulled off the feat against the Yankees' Chase Wright. Lowell homered in that sequence as well. Carter's homer was his fifth of the spring, and he's now hitting .353/.377/.706 in 51 at-bats. It looks like it will come down to him and Brad Wilkerson for one spot on Boston's bench. Wilkerson was supposed to have the big edge at the start of the spring, but he's struggled to a .128 average. Unless the Red Sox let defense be the determining factor, Carter should get the job.
