Smartest quote by a Red Sox fan ever posted here.

 Not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing coming from Gom;)

But I'll go out on a limb and say "Thanks":D

Sorry it's late here, am I missing the sarcasm somewhere? Was your comment about my post good, or did I miss you taking a shot at me?

Here's one Cubs fan's argument for a straight up Soriano-Bay trade. I just want to hear you all weigh in on this:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/139773-a-trade-that-makes-sense-alfonso-soriano-for-jason-bay

I'm sure the Cubs would love it if we saved them from Soriano at the price of Bay, but the fact is that Bay fits the Sox hitting philosophy and Soriano doesn't and never did.

And if we want to "get something" out of Bay that option is open to us even if we do nothing -- since Bay would really have to suck this year to not be a Type A free agent.

1 + 1s picks >>>>>>>>> Soriano and his injuries, his mammoth contract and his insistence on leading off despite being best suited as a 6 hitter.

Theo is absolutely right about the market. Why should the Red Sox pay a lot more than he is worth in the current market?

Why not? They did it for Lester.

Oh really?

I'd like to see you come up with a sound explanation for that statement.

Oh DipreG... don't EVER ask for a sound explanation from Gom. All you get is a lot of sound and a lot of explanation.

It's beyond your comprehension, sorry. Dojji...you are wrong, but that was funny. I have to give you that.

Save it for the Lester thread, where you've ingored all of the evidence and support that illustrate that Lester's contract represents a somewhat unique circumstance where the opportunity for the Sox to lock up someone LT, at a young age, at a price a bit higher than might typically be expected, makes absolute sense.

Soriano just turned 33 last January. There is still 6yrs/106M left on his deal. The Cubs would have to take a good chunk of that before I personally would consider it. If they figured out some way to make his AAV 10-12M, I suppose it could be worth it. But thats a fairly long shot scenario.

There are other players I would rather they look in on a trade before Soriano.

overpaying arguably the best lefty in the american league as opposed to overpaying an outfielder is like night and day, there is a huge difference of importance...as soon as i saw the thread i wouldve bet 10,000 it was jacko who started it...is bay going to hold out too?is he going to come up lame with a questionable injury till they get this done??....i dont think so...if the sox think he fits into their plans they'll pay him,hes very popular here but these guys are going real cheap these days.

Jacko can't seem to grasp the current market Crunchy. Not surprising seems how his team of choice is still operating by old market standards.

Theres the ny market and then theres the rest of us, the sox compete very well with the other teams in the league but nobody can compete with the yanks, not even the mets can come close, we got the young and proven arms then the guys who are capable of being studs waiting in the wings, thats a huge bonus seeing what ny has thrown at the other decent pitchers who hit free agency..corner of'ers are cheap this year, bay hit the market at a bad time but he'll make enuff to support a few generations of his family
