I'm so desperate' date=' i'm on the brink of watching Mexican baseball............[/quote']

I watched David Wells' perfect game a couple days ago -- and ENJOYED it. :o

So yeah...

I didn't realize this but the signing of Tek might effectivley end Kottaras time with the Sox. He's out of options, and unless they send Bard down, they probably have to trade or DFA him.
Posted
That's why I think they'll get rid of Bard and make Kottaras the backup which is a shame cause I think Kottaras should get all the ABs he can in Triple A

I guess he could be part of a deal for Montero. He could be AZ's back up. I don't see texas having interest. Not really sure who would want him.

You can't trade a player who was just signed as a Free Agent during the offseason until June 15th. However with their consent exceptions can be made, I believe. But they essentially have no-trade capability until June 15.

Correct me if Im wrong but you cant trade players who were signed as free agents' date=' right?[/quote']

Sorry I was talking about dealing Kott, not Bard.

Francona's Day 1 Presser:

"Varitek looks forward to that built in one day off, so he won't be catching Wake except in an emergency. We understand he will need some time off...... so he will get to rest day games after night games."

"Tek is going to catch for us and you better not hold your breath if you are waiting for us to pinch hit for him, it’s not going to happen."

Barf. There needs to be a change in the way Varitek is handled. This is what I feared when they resigned Varitek - if he catches more than 100 games this season it is an abject failure.

So now the sox are guaranteed to have a hole at catcher. Sweet.

Refresh my memory - who's catching for the Yankees? Posada, whose shoulder is hanging by a thread, or Molina, the guy who completely blew ass at the end of last year?

Posted
Posada is actually catching all of the bullpens and is accelerating his throwing program. He's had no hiccups and is expected to be catching full speed in games by mid spring training. He has also been hitting for about a month and says that his bat is back to where it should be in mid February. So yes, Posada will be catching unless something unforseen occurs.

There is no disputing that we are better off behind the plate than the Sox. Posada over Varitek anyday, and Molina, arguably the best defensive catcher in the AL (definitely has one of the best throwing arms) is our backup should Posada go down.

It has been an abject failure since they guaranteed $5 million to a 37 year old catcher who finished with a 73 OPS+ and a -2.0 VORP, on THIS market. ;)

You make talking out of your ass an art form.

A) AJ f***ing Burnett.

B ) Give me another non-Boras cheaper catching option or STFU douche.

Posted
AJ Burnett was an ace last yr in the ALE. Varitek was one of the worst catchers in baseball.

 Burnett an Ace...

Burnett has ace stuff, but he's no ace. He's a solid #2-3 option though.

Tek may be awful at the dish, but a tleast he will be behind the plate and not DHing at it.

Posted
Burnett was not an ace last year. He had a 4.07 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP' date=' both below his career average. He has great stuff and racked up the strikeouts, but he's not a #1.[/quote']

He pitched better than that.

Posted
Is your argument that he was an ace last year?

Provide your own numbers then.

No, I said he pitched better than what his numbers show. Jackson said he was an ace, not me. B)
