Burrell as DH is nice.

Longoria, Pena, Burrell is a nasty mid of the order.

TB should be fun to watch again this year.

Don't know how everyone feels about it on this board. But I like the fact that TB is competitive now. I think it makes for more interesting baseball.

Their lineup is pretty formidable now.

I'm with you bosoxnation07. Parity is a good thing, even if it means the Red Sox will face more adversity.

I told you in the Bay thread: you are overvaluing the market for corner outfielders.

Good call, PC.

I know they're nowhere close in terms of hitting ability, if I'm the Mets or Yankees, I have to kind of start thinking maybe I can get Manny for less than I thought he'd command.

Well, once I make my eventual move to Florida, I will need a team to follow if I can't watch the Sox on a daily basis. :D

That will strikeout close to 600 times.

Kind of a stretch there a700.

They could hit 100HRS, and knock in 300 runs as well. That has value.

It's time for Rays' lineup speculation!

Assuming their starters are:

C-Navarro

1B-Pena

2B-Iwamura

SS-Bartlett

3B-Longoria

LF-Crawford

CF-Upton

RF-Joyce

DH-Burrell

Then I guess their lineup is:

Iwamura

Upton

Crawford

Burrell

Pena

Longoria

Navarro

Joyce

Bartlett

Thoughts?

Huh? Crawford batting 3rd?

Iwamura

Longoria

Navarro

Crawford

Joyce

Bartlett

They still need a closer.

Lots of speed, lots of pop. My lineup would be a little different:

Iwamura

Crawford/Upton

Upton/Crawford

Longoria

Pena

Burrell

Navarro/Joyce

Joyce/Navarro

Bartlett

Based on 162 game averages, their strikeouts are as follows:

Burrell 158

Pena 166

Longoria 162

That's a total of 486. That's a load.

The 2 power righties batting one after the other?

Iwamura

Upton

Longoria

Pena

Burrell

Crawford

Navarro

Joyce

Bartlett

And yes, they do still need a closer.

who cares about K's. They all will reach base a ton and hit a s*** ton of homers.

It will matter when they strand leadoff doubles and triples because they are flailing like they are blind-folded.

And leave a s*** ton of runners stranded too.

Longo 4th, Pena 5th, Burrell 6th. Oh, and Upton probably bats third if he has anything resembling the power stroke he had in the playoffs.

Seriously scary stuff when combined with that lineup. Hopefully the Sox can put some pressure on a still-thin pen and stay ahead of these guys.

I didn't realize how bad Crawford was last year, but I think he's a good bet to bounce back to his normal form of low 800s OPS and more steals. He primarily hit 2nd or 3rd last year, so I doubt he drops as far down as you say.

Longo 4th' date=' Pena 5th, Burrell 6th. [/quote']

Fair enough, the 4 and 6 could go either way. I was just trying to separate the lefties and righties as much as possible.

Outs are outs, no matter what form they come in.

These guys will knock in more than they strand.

Right. You take the high OBP over the K concerns any day of the week.

That said, I also hear a700's point about moving in runners etc., and think that's maybe the 'second tier' of being a great plate control artist and something that was frustrating with the Sox a few years back. It could have been a lot of bad luck, but guys like WMP and Belhorn seemed to be rally killers in close games.

Either way, a team needs to have that OBP baseline established first and then they can start worrying about GBs to the right side and sac flies, etc.,

They'll make it up with a bunch of HR's.
Except for Longoria, the elite pitchers will dominate these guys. They'll hit their homers against the mediocre to bad pitchers.

Elite pitchers dominate most hitters.
