Good deal. Goodbye Moeller. Funny, Farnsworth was actually pitching well, but I wouldn't trust him in a big spot.

the 5 and 32 are awful for him

hes done but he is the best catcher of all time and i was a big time johnny bench guy as a kid.

then i found out that he was a lover of dave pallone and i heard this from bernie carbo,a good friend of bench and an acquiantance of mine...

wow' date=' they gave up Farnsworth?! what a stupid deal[/quote']

Ok....you are entitled to your opinion. How is this a bad deal for the Yankees?

Posted

cause when Joba was put in the rotation, the big question was what the Yanks would do for a bridge to Rivera. Farnsworth stepped up and became that bridge and now they got rid of him.

I'm sure you'll come up with a list of guys who you think will do better than Farnsworth but the fact is, for the last several weeks, primary setup duties have gone to Farnsworth.

Farnsworth stepped in and was serviceable. He was by no means a sure thing or lights out. His WHIP was still near 1.4. And that is after he had 11 consecutive appearances with no runs allowed.

With the acquisition of Marte who can setup, and the emergence of Veras and Ramirez, Farns became expendable.

I'm guessing Moeller gets sent down and Bruney takes Farnsworth's spot?

Wow, very surprised (and pleased) by this. I didn't even know Pudge was available. The Yankees just got a lot better behind the plate...Pudge/Molina should be lightyears better than Molina/Moehller.

most likely. Bruney was much better than Farns early on. Also, Melancon becomes an option now that he's in AAA

Jesus. The Yankees are wheeling and dealing while the sox sit back with their dumbs up their asses.

Sometimes I put my dumb in my ass. It gets weird.

Possibly. I wouldn't be shocked if they kept Moeller. Even when Posada was healthy Joe carried 3 catchers, and he really likes Moeller. And especially now that he's aiming to have Moeller be Rasner's designated catcher. But then again, that was before the acquisition of Pudge, so who knows at this point.

Good deal. You have to give something to get something, and losing Farnsworth, while it doesn't necessarily hurt the Yankees pen, it weakens it somewhat for now. It as funny too, I as standing outside the press gate after the game last night and sa Ca$h walk out not even 15 minutes after the game on his cell phone (wonder if he was talking to Dombrowski  ) and then Farnsworth come out with his daughter almost immediately after.

I'm looking forward to seeing Pudge in pinstripes. I'm going to the game tomorrow, so hopefully he joins the team in time for me to see him make his Yankee debut.

I wonder what number he's gonna take considering his number 7 is of course retired. 70, 77?

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

We needed Pudge more than the Yankees. Mollina is better in defense same in offense as Tek.

May be Theo could have offered Hansen?

Yeah' date=' but Tek is your captain. Hard to do during the season.[/quote']

I know I know. We are stuck with him as you are with Jeter.

Wow. All praise Cash.

Marte makes Farns expendable. He had his hot streak, and this is definitely his peak value. Well done. Pudge is a huge upgrade.

Let us do an audit to the swiss bank accounts of Philly, Tigers and Pirates GM's.

Apart from last year - Cashman always have done a superb job at trading deadline.

Nice to know that you anticipate my posts!

Seriously, no one saw that one coming. Until the deal was done, there was no discussion, no whispers, no rumors... just a deal. The Yankees upgrade themselves at catcher by a huge margin—I can't wait to get Joe Sheehan and Christina Kahrl on this—in return for Kyle Farnsworth, who'll be the set-up man in Detroit. I can't say I understand this one for the Tigers, but in less than a day, Brian Cashman went from beating his head against the wall to really improving his team.

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7881

Kyle Farnsworth 2008 WARP: 1.6

Ivan Rodriguez 2008 WARP: 3.6

Kyle Farnsworth 3-year WARP: 5.3

Ivan Rodriguez 3-year WARP: 13.1

Regardless of the duration of metric, Pudge is more than twice as valuable than Kyle Farnsworth. Both are impending free agents.

:dunno:

Cashman found someone to take Latroy Hawkins in a trade, thats even more of a conspiracy, why Houston, or anyone would make a deal for him and give up anything in return.
