Obviously we need a refresher in how to win baseball games.

Here's a start - score more runs than they do. We do that and I like our chances.

another riveting post by yeszir.

how about the fact that coco crisp is batting .476 in 21 career at bats vs washburn? or that youk has 5 hits in 10 at bats vs washburn in his career? or how much washburn basically sucks for being paid almost $10 mil even though he has a losing record over the past three years.

it might even be worth noting that the mariners havent seen much of lester over his career, with beltre and ichiro both facing him the most at 6 at bats each. but somehow, in 2 games and 10 innings total, he has an ERA over 8 against the mariners over his short career.

just some added insight, comment as you please everyone. maybe something worthwhile so that while i read this and look out my office window at fenway park i can think about things related to the red sox, not just read about how tired you are.

Jon Lester: 7-3, 3.38 ERA, 1.33 WHIP. He faced Seattle last year (not in 08 yet), and went 5 IP, allowing 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB with 4 K.

Jarrod Washburn: 4-8, 4.83 ERA, 1.48 WHIP. Last time facing Boston was August 07: 6.1 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 4 K.

A less hostile post might look something along these lines:

Coco Crisp is batting .476 in 21 career at bats vs Washburn.

Youk is 5/10 against Washburn.

Washburn sucks and is overpaid.

Etc, etc.

That being said, I'm excited for another west coast game, so now I don't have to watch a bullpen meltdown. although someone just posted (bosox?) in another forum that Masterson has been called back up, which is promising.

Only against RH batters.

Haha, I'll take it. Better than cringing when ANY OTHER RELIEVER comes in (Paps being the exception). This team is slowly killing me, though I say that every year.

I'm really tired. I've just driven 6,450 miles in 14 days, and I have to drive from Southside Virginia up to DC and back (300 miles in heavy traffic each trip) either two or three times the next three days.

But you want something worthwhile. [sigh]

OK...

1) Boston is 3-11 in its last 14 games in Seattle

2) Lester is 22-6 in his last 28 starts on grass

3) The Red Sox are 62-30 in their last 92 games on grass

4) Washburn lost 5-4 to effing KC his last start

5) The Red Sox are 24-8 in their last 32 road games vs. a team with a losing home record

6) The Red Sox are 13-5 in their last 18 road games vs. a left-handed starter

7) The Red Sox are 42-20 in their last 62 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30

8) The Red Sox are 19-5 in Lesters last 24 starts vs. a team with a losing record

9) Dustin Pedroia is leading Red Sox regular players in batting average. This is because, despite his short stature, he has the largest bulge in his jock strap.

Welcome back to the East Coast JHB.

(And yes, that was unrelated to baseball. mannyforpres is gonna take some figuring out)

You know, JHB, you and I don't know each other well. But I've missed you and your posts in the last two weeks, so welcome back. I'm always blown away by how much you write in your posts, and how interesting it is..

Taking a step back and looking at this post, what I'm trying to say is...I have a mancrush on you. Just saying.

My prediction: Sox win 6-3, Lester goes 7 giving up 2ER, bullpen gives up one in the 8th. Home runs by two of the following at least: Manny, Lowell, Youk, Drew. As well as one home run from an unlikely source. After the game, angry Mariners fans burn Safeco to the ground, then burn Raul Ibanez to the ground.

Washburn has been a worse pitcher at home this year with an ERA about .8 points higher. I say we have a shot.

The Redsox are a very talented team they always have a shot.. As long as Okajima is not allowed to pitch it's a slim chance they win.

Why oh why is Ellsbury leading off again

That should change when Papi comes back Fri. Dustin, Youk, Papi, Manny etc etc.

It should change right now. Pedroia's hit leadoff before and he's on fire.

I know bro but from everything I'm reading, may not happen until Fri.

One of the announcers for Seattle's name is actually Mike BLOWERS.....LMAO!!!!!

.257/.329/.416 career, primarily as a third baseman. Mostly played for Seattle. :D

Posted
And he was born in Germany.

But Jerry Remy clearly had a much better career.

Heck, by the BR metric Batting Wins, Roger LaFrancois had a much better career--1.3 batting wins better.

And Roger LaFrancois only had 10 MLB at bats...
