He needs a blood test. Maybe he has one of those Japanese parasites that the Yankees got a couple of years ago. There is something wron with him. He looks helpless.

2. Youkilis, 1B

3. Drew, RF

4. Ramriez, LF

5. Lowell, 3B

6. Doumit, C

7. Carter, 1B

8. Ellsbury, CF

9. Lowrie, SS (According to WARP, Lugo has been worse than he was last year, thanks to his defense.)

I like it! I particularly like the use of two first basemen--Youkilis can range up the baseline while Carter guards the line.

BTW, FWIW, I was surprised to see that Carter is actually doing OK in LF in AAA. It could easily be a small-sample issue, but I take hope nonetheless...move Carter to LF and Manny to DH.

And put Tek back at catcher...

I laughed out loud at this

Carter might need the additional help at 1B.....

As for Varitek, they stuck with Lugo when he was hitting .198. I guess they're going to stick with him....

How bad does he have to play to warrant a replacement?

They would put him on the DL. Let's hope he gets the "flu" or whatever MLB teams call the flu these days.

I've noticed you really like Ryan Doumit. Everyone on the Pirates is for sale I'm sure but whats up with this guy? He is crushing the ball and generally bats 3rd or 4th in the Pirates lineup. Was he supposed to be this good and can he catch? If he is legite then I wouldn't mind moving some decent prospects to get him. The Pirates also have Marte who has always been a decent lefty.....wheels are churning doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Bowden, Kottaras, and a low level prospect for Doumit and Marte??

I can't find any rumor of the Pirates' wanting to trade Doumit. Big surprise. ;)

Seriously, a few concerns:

1) Doumit isn't a good catcher. BP estimates that he costs his team 8 runs per 100 games with his defense, twice that over the past year and a half. That's as bad as it gets.

2) Doumit is hitting .346/.391/.622 this year, but he's only batted .270/.342/.464 over his career.

3) These are NL Central stats...caveat emptor, folks.

plus, i believe this is his 3rd yr of service time, so the pirates own him for another 3 yrs after this. With his prior history of being very fragile and his mediocre stats prior to this yr, I dont think he will be all that expensive come arb this yr. Hence, I dont see a reason why the pirates should move him. The Rays are going to give a lot of young and talented teams some hope. The Buccos have some young pitching in that rotation headed by Young, Snell, Gorzellany and Duke. If they all grow together, that could be a pretty good staff. I dont see them dealing away a young power hitting catcher halfway through their control of him when he will likely be the center of their offense going into next yr

Better yet lets get a blockbuster going with Atlanta for Brian McCann

Yes, because 24 year old power hitting catchers grow on trees.

serious illnesses? He had colds.

He had the flu and then strep throat. I had strep once, kinda miserable. And if you have the puking flu, it really sucks.

STFU bbdoc!

How about Johjima??

His first two seasons were very good for a catcher and since he's struggled a bit this season perhaps he wouldn't come at an outrageous price. I don't know how good he is on the defensive side but he could take Kevin Cash's place and create a platoon between himself and Jason Varitek.

Why don't we just not have a catcher? Our starters can throw at the umpire's nuts all game and Manny can stand 5 feet away and throw the ball back after it bounces off the ump.

It might help widen the strikezone called for our pitchers, too. Two birds with one stone.

Usually the Sox have the luxury of not really needing Tek to produce that much. But with Papi out, Manny not 100%, Ellsbury not 100%, Lugo being Lugo, Youkilis and Lowell being AVG, we really need some production to come from somewhere. Pedroia and Drew have been carrying this team for awhile and that is only going to last so long. they need something from somewhere....anywhere......
