So who's gonna be the mop up guy? Now we just need to get rid of Lopez and Timlin.

Well I think it will be Colon unless something drastic happens, such as Wakefield getting moved to the pen. I completely agree that Timlin needs to get the hell away from this team, he is just dead weight.

mopup guy? the way that this team has the ability to score runs we need a guy that can come in the game early and be able to pitch 3,4 inning without giving much runs so our offense can come back in the game , Tavarez CANT do that , like I've said before he's usleless to this team . the only thing tavarez is good for is to pitch if we have a 10 run lead thats it , and dosent happen often so we dont need him . Like yesterday when he replaced wake couldn't even give us a scoreless inning , same thing VS detroit he gave up 3 ER in 1 inning , we lost that game by 1 run . I'm sick of him

timlin is next

Would it be a bad thing to put Wakefield in the pen? I mean I know he's started for a while, and he could take it as a slap in the face, but he's done relief work before. I think playing wise it couldn't hurt to atleast try it out.

colon and/or schilling when either of them are ready to make the move up. I think its plausible at least. Right now, I don't see them taking either Lester or Buchholz out of the rotation when Colon or Schill are ready unless one of them shows they need to be sent down but as of now, neither one of those guys deserves a send down.

On a serious note, I'm psyched they're keeping Hansen up and giving him a legit run at the closer's job. He's earned it.

I think Bucholz will come out of the rotation for Colon.

Not before tonight he wasn't but all night tonight he was collapsing on his back leg like it was made of jello and hanging everything. Enjoy pawtucket, may i never praise anyone again. Its a curse.

Closers role? A joke?

Dude, if you're not ready to give Hansen a shot by now I don't know what to tell you.

He was FILTHY last night.

seriously, arguably the best reliever in the game currently holds the Red Sox closer spot. am I missing something with this Hansen pom-pom waving?

the best I'm hoping for from Hansen is that he becomes that lights out righty setup man that we've been looking for

I am ready for him to have a major role in the bullpen but I think that the closers role is going to be out of his reach no matter how well he performs. I expected big things from him last year, and the sleep aphnea was a really dissappointing set back. He has had big time stuff since he was drafted, its not by accident he made it to the majors in 05. It probably just went a little too fast for him. He is big time, but I think I am pretty happy with our closer situation. Papelbon is about as dominant as they come. The best strike out closer in the game right now. Having Hansen step into a set up role would be outstanding. I think our bullpen has a chance to become something special. Bullpens are a funny thing, and they need time to kind of take shape. In mid-season last year we had the best bullpen in baseball, we have all those parts returning, and a wild card in hansen. To say he is ready to audition for the closers role - role which we have filled quite nicely right now - is getting a little too optimistic. I think he is ready for high leverage innings though.

This is looking way way ahead, but does anyone know if Hansen would be considered as having logged a full season of service time with his ups and downs between boston and pawtucket? I don't think he would. Which means if he sticks this would be considered his first full season under club control which means we have 6 more ahead of us and if his stuff stays sharp and he lives up to his potential, he could potentially push Papelbon out when he hits free agency. There wouldn't be any reason to spend the money on Papelbon ( and lets face it, there will be no home town discount with this guy) if Hansen is performing to his potential and could step in to the ninth inning role.

Hey, I thought Kilo was serious, too, the other night when he was talking about this Hansen as closer stuff. I suggested he was drunk, and CrespoBlows had this to say to me:

Kilo might be impaired from a substance' date=' but you're mentally impaired if you think he was serious.[/i']

I told him that in my defense, sarcasm loses a lot on a discussion board. CrespoBlows said this:

Sorry, I'm not buying your defense.

No one with any ounce of logic is going to believe that removing Papelbon for Craig Hansen is a good idea, let alone someone else buying it, especially coming from theKilo.

So, based on what I've been taught by CrespoBlows, you guys have been had (much like me).:dunno:
