Perhaps it'ss be different for future generations now that so much of an athlete's life ends up public and they get exposed for what they really are. Maybe that's for the best..

I also believe this statement has some merit. Growing up, I didnt even have the internet til 7th grade, which was 14 years ago...and even then AOL dialup and ESPN was a bit primitive. All we had back then was the newspapers....and when the sox won the 1995 AL east title I was in 6th grade...an much more concerned with collecting those player posters that were featured in the Boston Herald than reading the behind the scenes stuff.

kids arent as wide eyed as they once were but speaking for myself i had guys i idolized but baseball players werent among them

i did like freddy lynn but i liked john havlicek and dave cowens a lot more

if i wanted to be anyone outside myself?

perhaps my 5th grade teacher who was humping every other teacher in the school and brought in his tv for the 75 playoffs and world series but was never put to the test because there were no afternoon games,im sure there was 1 scheduled but because both teams who played, swept their series the need for tv wasnt there.

he was also a guy who worked for the state theater and got us all movie passes, took the entire 5th grade camping locally and we had to build our own shelter as part of a bicentennial project and then at the end of the year we went to sargents camp in nh for a week....every lunch hour between 1130-1 we'd play either softball or full contact football and we'd walk from the school to the fields in an orderly way because this guy WOULD put his hands on you if you f***ed up...it was a very unstructured environment to study in and he seemed to have the world by the balls.

he and the 4th grade teachers would walk us as a class after school to CCD every wednesday in complete defiance of seperating church from state...

a different time altogether.

of course he quit teaching after 3 years and ended up a real estate mogul who is now worth 8 figures....

It's a sad fact of life that baseball players are mega stars and that most men, when presented with the opportunity to cheat so many times, will probably cave at some point. I've heard some stories about sox players.

That said, f*** Clemens. Here's hoping that he goes into the Hall of Fame wearing a Yankees hat.

“Whenever he came into the Hard Rock, they had to play ‘Rocket Man,’ ”

  Oh my god

And I merged the two threads on this and moved it to the general baseball forum

And the beat goes on...new alleged affair...Clemens lie regarding this most recent news should be out by tomorrow:

Anyone recall the Piazza incident, when Roger threw the broken bat in Piazza's direction? If I recall, he stated that he was fielding the bat, thinking it was the ball. This alone shoulda wiped out any credibility this guy had years ago.

If I'm following the timeline correctly, Ms. Daly's alleged affair follows Ms. McCready's alleged affair, and the two bargirl incidents mentioned yesterday either completely precede or completely follow both of these.

I say that Roger Clemens is serially monogamous, not some guy who plays the field. That's what confused Jose Canseco. It's just that he's faithful to a succession of women other than his wife.

Here's hoping he gets into the hall of fame at all..

I don't care, personally, whether he makes the Hall or not. But, imagine if he does...and he's doing his acceptance speach...what's he gonna say?

well if pete rose isnt in the hall of fame and joe jaxon isnt in the hall of fame and JIM ED RICE isnt in the hall of fame and Mark Mcguire dont even approach the hall of fame I dont think that the con man from Katy is going in anytime soon.

Hes more embarassing than bringing the class pump to the Senior Formal then puking on yourself before you get her dress into your glove compartment.

what an *******

Talk about a fall from grace. I just wanted to add my disgust.

Dirtdogs had something that made me laugh the other day about Clemens admitting an affair with Barbara Walters.
