When I read about it earlier I was shocked. He hada reputation of being a faithful husband, a rarity among pro athletes. This doesn't necessarily mean he did have an affair with Mindy, but it sure looks suspicious. He probably did, but I guess only time will tell. We have to let the story unfold a little but more I guess.

"Yes, I met the 15-year-old girl in a bar with my buddies, and I hung out with her for over a decade, and I didn't tell her I was married until she found out by reading something written about me, and I used to fly her off to Las Vegas and New York to party with me, and I loaned her my private jet for her personal use, and she hung out in my bedroom with me at my apartment right next to where I worked but over 1,000 miles from where my wife and kids lived, and I sent her bundles of cash by FedEx after we broke up instead of just writing her a check from my multi-million-dollar bank accounts...

...but I never had sex with that woman."

This is less plausible than his denying that he used PEDs.

Reportedly, Mccready has a checkered past herself. Drug abuse, an abusive relationship, an arrest....check out this mug shot:

After hitting stardom in the mid-1990s - her debut album "Ten Thousand Angels" went platinum - McCready continued to see Clemens, according to the sources, although there were several breaks along the way when McCready was involved with other men. She was briefly engaged to actor Dean Cain and later was in an abusive relationship with Billy McKnight - the father of her only child, Zander.

Her personal life, however, soon played out like a bad country song. There was a 2004 arrest for prescription fraud. A near-overdose while pregnant. A guilty plea by McKnight for assaulting McCready. And her stint in a Tennessee jail last year after violating probation, for allegedly hitting her mother in Florida.

prescription fraud is 1 thing,we all enjoy pharmaceuticals.

but hitting your mother?

putting your hands on the woman who carried you for 9 months, fed you, nutured and protected you at your most vulnerable time??

My God is there anything worse or more despicable?

there isnt a crime worse than beating your mother and i would just assume put a slug in my own kids head than allow my kids or anyone for that matter to put their hands on my wife or my mother...

roger clemens?

is anyone surprised that these trailer park f***ups hooked up with each other?

the only thing that would impress me is if clemens ends up serving jail time.

When do we to to line up and take swings at Clemens's face?

Is that still allowed these days? Or stone throwing? Because really unless I'm allowed to inflict some sort of phyiscal pain on the bastard for ruining my sport of choice, he can just get raped in prison and die for all I care.

McCready confirmed the NY Daily News report

Mindy McCready weeps as she confirms affair with Roger Clemens

Its really a shame. He was a hero to so many people, and I always wanted him to finish his career in Boston.....but now I am almost ashamed to think he played here. Im almost glad he left all those years ago, and would be happier if his name wasnt associated with our organization at all (to be fair, he really isnt even thought of a Sox anymore right or wrong as that may be, anytime you see any picture of him, hes wearing yankees gear, which makes me smile).

A quick google pics search brings up the following pictures:

13 Yankees

3 Redsox

2 Houston

2 other

1 U of Texas

another of a long line of GOP family values proponents.

some of us had this fraud pegged long ago and this stupid f*** is about to lie himself into jail.

A little much? Nah.

I just read the full article on it and see those other items JBH mentioned. Personally I don't care what he did with whom...assuming the allegations are true, though, the lying routine is old. Just fkn admit it and move on, dude.

That's the problem with "so many people." They worship these guys blindly. Any fan who is "hurt" by his downfall needs to fkn wake up and realize that these guys are not only as susceptible to bad decisions as the rest of society, their egos and money often make them more susceptible...and all the while they think they are above our contempt?

Said it a million times..

These guys ain't my heroes, role models or friends...

they're adults lucky enough to have been blessed with athletic ability that allows them to play a kid's game for ridiculous salaries...

they're playing a game most of us would gladly play for a fraction of their pay and fame. f*** 'em.

You don't care that it was a 15 y/o girl?

What's the statute of limitations on statutory rape? Even if he drops his defamation case, which is what brought all of this out (nice move Roj), he could find himself in a courthouse nonetheless.

From the other thread, this link: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/04/28/2008-04-28_mindy_mccready_weeps_as_she_confirms_aff.html

"I cannot refute anything in the story," a tearful but resolute McCready told the Daily News, which broke the story at midnight Sunday.

Wow.

FWIW, I can't find anything in Florida Statutes that Clemens might still be criminally liable for this: if he did engage in sexual relations with Miss McCready when he was 28 and she was 15, it's at worst a second-class felony with a three-year statute of limitations. (Sections 800.04 and 775.15 Florida Statutes; IANAL)

This still doesn't look good for Clemens, given that he's launched a lawsuit against McNamee that's predicated upon Clemens's exemplary character being damaged by false statements by McNamee regarding Clemens's alleged PED abuse. McNamee's DNA evidence, coupled with Clemens's damaged character, might seem to leave Clemens slightly vulnerable to countersuit.

1 of the sales managers at work calls me into his office the monday after nomar got traded

""you handle baseball""

ok

""i want to bet against the red sox every single game for the rest of the year""

ok

""you gonna honor this when they go 14-35 the rest of the way""

ya

""they suck without nomar and this will destroy a team that came within 4 outs of the pennant""

ok

""you sure about this""

its what i do

""fine *******,i'm going against the redsox every game from here on out and we'll settle up in october""

no,we settle up weekly and i'll make it ez for you and use the herald line

"good,see you next friday""

for 3 weeks this f***bag laid it in against boston every single evening because they traded his hero nomar....i think i beat him out of 2200.00 at 100.00 a game as the sox went on a kick ass tear and this douchebag couldnt figure out how that could be possible but had enuff sense to back off after his wife bounced a 30.00 check at stop and shop and threatened him with divorce.

i like baseball but i dont give a fiddlers f*** about the people playing the game because they dont feed my family nor do they give a f*** about me or my family or my fiscal obligations

I wasn't referring to her age...or even to her, specifically...my point was that, in general, I don't give a s*** what these guys do, because I don't look up to them for the most part, and I don't hold them to a higher standard than anyone else.

For the record, IMO, it is absolutely fkn reprehensible that he'd screw around with a girl of that age, assuming all this is true.

I guess I'm just not surprised in the least at these revelations. I've never liked, admired or trusted the guy.

I was speaking mostly for kids. These guys are heroes to kids. Any 30 year old man who has a baseball player for a hero, well then that person does need a reality check (and counseling) .

And I do believe that while they are human beings that make mistakes, they should really be more careful about what they do and say....Im my line of work (law enforcement), If I do something stupid, and end up in the news I make the front page, while johnny burger king (thanks Foulke) gets 2 lines on page 10. If I make a stupid mistake Im fired, never allowed in law enforcement again......so if I can live a good lifestyle, someone who makes million of dollars should be able to as well, so to me......it is a shame, there are plenty of adults out there who live honest, good clean lives.

At one time all of us had heroes in baseball. Growing up there was always that player (or players) who we looked up to and admired. Every single one of you. I know for years as a kid I loved Roger Clemens (Derek Jeter, Ozzie Smith, and Paul O'Neill were also included in that group for me). Obviously now, at 19, my feelings towards them, Roger in particular, are much different. I feel so much shame towards him. But the point I'm trying to make is you guys can go on your rants about players and how they don't give a f*** about you and everything, but don't be so ignorant as to ignore the past. At one point I'm sure some of you guys worshiped a Pudge Fisk or Yaz or maybe even for some of you Ted Williams., or WHOEVER!

Every point made is absolutely true, but to many youth and some adults these guys are icons, and it's tough for some to see things like this go down. The Mitchell Report for example, as embarrassed as I am to say it was tough for me. This was nothing, I dont give a flying f*** about Roger Clemens now. All he did was lie and cheat his way ito my heart for years and it's a pity. I still have those fond memories of standing in Yankee Stadium with goosebumps on June 13th, 2003when he achieved his 300th win, but f*** HIM! And f*** Mindy McCready and her ugly, busted up ass.

I don't know. My kids seem to have more respect for teachers, law enforcement employees, doctors, their Mom and Dad, their friends' parents (with some exceptions),etc. than they do professional athletes.

My 12 yr old plays ball and loves the game, and while he admires certain players abilities (Manny's swing, Bucholz curve, etc.) he in no way idolizes any player and to tell the truth, I think a lot of that is based on what he's been exposed to in his years as a fan - - with steroids clearly at the forefront.

Posted
Perhaps it'ss be different for future generations now that so much of an athlete's life ends up public and they get exposed for what they really are. Maybe that's for the best..

whats wrong with roger?

he was born in texas for openers which means 15 is eligible

he makes pedro martinez sound like gore vidal with his grasp of english or lack there of.

he is amongst the worst big game pitchers ever

hes a f***ing jerk.

this is redundant

he belongs behind bars for life with suzy waldman in his ear the entire time

I think that is a big part of it. The media attention these guys get, particularly the focus on their screwups and indiscretions, is much more intense than years ago. The internet, too, offers easy access to this information. Fans in general are much more aware of what's going on behind the scenes and it likely leads to them viewing athletes much more critically, decreasing the level of respect they have for the pros.

I do love this part:

“Whenever he came into the Hard Rock, they had to play ‘Rocket Man,’ ” recalled another ex-employee. What a tool. Wonder what news will come out tomorrow and the next day. I used to root for his demise...now he's just a fkn embarassment.
