As if you haven't heard it everywhere already. "Faked" is a harsh word but he clearly played it out to be a lot worse than it was. He showed no ill-effects from an injury that required him to be wheel chaired off of the court.

.....

What in the f*** does he have to gain for "faking" an injury like that?

As someone who's torn their meniscus and ACL before, I can safely say that when you hear that "pop" that was described, you think the worst. When I tore my ACL it was sore and swollen and really painful for a few days until the swelling went down. I was able to walk on it for a month until my surgery. They were trying to be cautious, to take him back and examine it, and to not let him move it until they examined it.

According to Garnett, he "gave everybody life. I could tell that everybody was rejuvenated."

He came hopping down the aisle as the Rocky theme played. He didn't limp, he had a jump in his step.

Him coming back into the game, in the words of the Celtics, rejuvenated them, it rejuvenated the crowd, and you're going to ask me what he had to gain?

I think his question wasn't about what the team had to gain by his return, but at the time of the injury, what did pierce or the celtics gain by him being carried off the court? To fake an injury with the intentions of coming back to pump up your team is just about the most unlikely thing I've ever heard of.

Agreed, though my allegiance is to the Suns like you SeeRed, I'm gunna have to disagree and say he didn't fake it. if anything he were being ovelry cautious by being carried off to make sure it wasn't serious, and nothing more. There are many injuries like that where if you do something as simple as walking, you just exacerbate it. Better to be safe than sorry.

Pierce said he heard a pop and was in a lot of pain. Celtics players, in addition to their fans, felt Pierce was lost for the whole series. Turns out it wasn't as serious as first thought and he returned to the game.

What does Pierce as an individual have to gain from faking an injury like this? Paul Pierce, the person who was stabbed 19 times and subsequently played all 82 games the following season? Pierce, who was waited his whole career to play in a Finals game, would be willing to take himself out of arguably the most important game of his career to that point?

Makes a lot of sense. Don't look now, your anti-Celtic bias is showing again.

This makes little sense. The team benefits from one of it's stars, one who is playing quite well mind you, missing about 4 mins of crunch time just so they can get a 30 second adrenaline rush? This just goes to show that you can find anything if you look hard enough.

You act like this isn't being mentioned elsewhere. That jolt didn't benefit the team? Pierce comes back in the game and a 1 point lead grows to 10 damn near instantly.

No one is saying the jolt didn't benefit the team, because it obviously did. We're trying to say it wasn't Pierce "faking" or "playing out" an injury whatsoever.

Bill Plaschke? Skip Bayless?

Good company....

I was wrong, he missed 5 mins of real-time, but only 1:45 of game-time. That said, your recap is more than a bit off.

3rd Quarter - Per this Pierce's injury occurs at 6:49 in the 3rd
Time|Bos|LA|Event

6:48|58|62|Posey in for Pierce

5:03|63|62|Pierce in for Posey

1:25|72|71|Pierce makes a 3

1:04|75|71|Pierce makes a 3
The quarter closes with Boston up 4. Not until Posey makes a 3 with 8:44 left in the 4th do they go up 10.

This is off topic, but do you know why pierce was stabbed?

Edit - prediction: Not trying to be a homer, but I think the celts are locked the f*** in. Celtics pull it out like Kobe in Colorado, 99 - 96 on a James Posey 3. Not guilty.

I love the Celtics chances to win tonight - I think they'll show up to play.

That being said, the referees assigned to the game are Joey Crawford and Bennett Salvatore, which spells trouble.

I say the Celtics out play the Lakers, but lose because of a fat free throw disparity.

I f***ing hate that the refs have such an impact on all of the games, straight up ********. It's the finals, let the play.

On September 25, 2000, Paul Pierce was stabbed 11 times in the face, the neck and the back while at a late night dance club in the Boston area. He had to undergo lung surgery to repair the damage.[17][18] He has overcome the stabbing and was the only Celtic to start all 82 games that year. [19]

From wikipedia. I dunno.

It's the same as any other year.

I want to burn his eyebrows off.

Tough loss, one we could have had.

I hope Laker fans stop complaining now (+12 FT advantage), even though the officiating wasn't bad tonight, it wasn't that good either.

Gotta be tough for a defense to know Kobe's gonna get a call every trip down the floor that doesn't result in points.

That being said, Doc did a terrible job leaving Allen on an island against Bryant. In game 4, I'd like to see a LeBron-type defense against Bryant.

Yep, and that table shows why I can't totally get into the NBA. More than any other sport, the refs home/road treatment makes it tough to respect the outcome of any game. It is why the college game is so much better. The NCAA refs will swallow their whistle if the offensive guy is initiating the contact and let them play. The NBA guys only do that for the road team.
Posted
yeah, it's the charge/blocking fouls i hate the most, that is perhaps the most inconsistent rule in the game. Even if the defense player's feet aren't set, if the offensive player initiates the contact, they should swallow the whistle.

Ever think you'd see a league so ill-equipped to defend itself against accusations like the one's that Donaghy's making? Just so happens that as he's making the accusations the referees are making up for some ridiculously lopsided officiating with... more ridiculously lopsided officiating.
