Okay let's make the third game ours and get a win. Shakey Wakey takes the mound for us. And even though it's Texas, Wakefield still makes me nervous on the mound. Regardless, our run support has been there, so let's keep it up and get this win.

Teams: Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox

Location: Fenway Park, Boston

Date/Time: April 20, 2008 at 1:35pm EST

TV: NESN, MLBtv, FOX(?)

Starting Pitchers:

Scouting Report:

Rangers: Millwood is 0-9 despite a 4.02 ERA in his last 11 starts on the road going back to June 17, 2007. The Rangers are 0-11 in those 11 starts, having averaged 1.80 runs per nine innings of support for Millwood. He is 4-3 with a 4.15 ERA in 10 career starts against the Red Sox. He is 3-1 with a 3.44 ERA at Fenway Park. David Ortiz is 6-for-12 with three home runs off him but Manny Ramirez is just 4-for-17 (.235) with a home run.

Red Sox: As usual, Wakefield has been steady. He took a no-decision in his last start, giving up seven hits and two runs over six innings against the Guardians on Tuesday. He has given up three earned runs or fewer in all three of his starts. He?s holding opponents to a .254 average. In his career against the Rangers, Wakefield is 9-14 with a 5.66 ERA.

I've called upon some James Bond Mojo.

Ain't it a four game set? I was thinking we faced Gabbard at some point.

JHB mentioned in another thread that perhaps the umps are being evaluated against Pitch-fx. I certainly hope so. On the strike 3 call to Lowrie, Laird set up off the plate, had to move the glove further off the plate, and it still got called.

Just what we need...Manny getting himself ejected.

I'm not watching the game yet, what happened?

EDIT: I'm f***ing blacked out because it's the Goddamn Rangers.

Is it just me or have there been lots of throwing errors when Ellsbury's running the bases? Seems like every other time he's on (slight exaggeration) there's some sort of foul-up that gives him extra bases. Is he just making the opposing team nervous when he's on base? Does he have Jedi mind powers?

I was actually just talking about that to my girlfriend. I think it's just that the opposing teams know how fast he can be, so they rush throws, assuming that rushing them is the only way to catch him. As a result, they throw it into center field and Jacoby scampers to third. It's hilarious.

That's what I figured, but since I don't actually see the games it's hard to know. Thanks for the confirmatory opinion.

So, maybe opposing teams should always let Ellsbury take second base without a throw in order to spare themselves the embarrassment of chucking it into CF.

Another Ellsbury-related question: how the heck is he drawing so many walks? His OBP is about 200 points higher than his BA. Getting walked every 5th at-bat? What the heck? I like the kid and all, but why are pitchers treating him like 2004 Barry Bonds?

Ortiz needs to do something here to take a bit of pressure off of Wake, especially with Manny out. Do you think they'll walk him and go after Thurston, or take their chances on his 'slump' so they can have Thurston instead of Youk leading off next inning?
