There are no claims if a player is a free agent. If he's a free agent, all you do is add him and the transaction immediately processes. It has nothing to do with the strength of your waiver claim position.

I don't see Kendrick as much of an upgrade over Castillo or Kent, plus he never seems to play a full season. As for Byrnes, before he was DL'd, he was having a terrible season. My outfielders are good. Byrnes wouldn't crack my outfield.
