I don't give a f*** that Tek is on the list, das. He isn't a loudmouth like Clemens, Schill, Raf...not to mention we aren't talking about a guy with great production. Steroids weren't managing our pitchers or calling the game, and thats what makes Tek good. (and i dont care much about steroids anyway so long as 16 year old kids aren't on them, which is the by-product of the mlb guys using). It does suck, however, that a supposed "class" guy like tek is on the list. as a sox fan I hope the outwardly positive role models aren't outed while the douchebags of the world like Kenny Rogers, Roger Clemens, Milton Bradley...etc are.

After all, what kid wants to be Milton Bradley when he grows up?

Maybe tek will sign for an extra year dirt cheap now. We have no good catchers in our farm system.

So far the 'unofficial' list has more prominant Red Sox(Nomar, Varitek, Nixon) than Yankees - I am sure the real list will have more names from the Yankees.

Good point - just to make sure I do not wish him to be on the list as well as any players from Red Sox as I am a fan of the team.

ok now what happens to the guys who are still playing?

suspensions?

or do they take this to court?

Only thing I can think of is monetary(contract + endoresements) or HOF credential loss.

As Scott Boras astutely points out, the listed individuals (or especially the rumored-to-be-listed individuals) haven't failed drug tests under the collective bargaining agreement, nor have they been convicted of anything in a court of law where rules of evidence apply.

My guess is that everybody shows up next February except for the few scapegoats such as Barry Bonds. YMMV.

They will be guilty in the court of public opinion.

I wouldn't call Barry Bonds a scapegoat. Most of the people i talk to (and my sentiment) say that they hate him because he's a jerk.

And he isn't indicted for using. You don't lie under oath to a federal grand jury. Giambi didn't, and the backlash he felt, while it may have seemed awful at the time, is dwarfed in comparison to what Bonds is getting for lying under oath and getting caught.

I also think (and thought) that part of the reason Tejada moved so quickly after two years of speculation was that the O's knew what was going to happen to his trade value once this report came out.

Bonds should have fessed up when he had the chance.

If Tejada is truly on the list (which would be no surprise) is surely makes one wonder if Angelos had inside info yesterday or earlier, resulting in the trade timing. It is funny how he wanted major league ready talent before for Tejada and the deal he actually accepted from Houston yesterday. Also makes me wonder about Andruw Jones, he signed pretty quickly for someone who wanted a long term deal.

I call ******** on this list for a few reasons:

1. Many of those named are those we already know about. Canseco, Caminiti, etc.

2. It seems a lot of the rest are players that "could" be on steroids...or have been rumored to have been on steroids in the past.

3. Lastly, and probably the biggest, is the format. In a formal report, would they call Ivan Rodriguez "Pudge"? Especially when they name Maurice Vaughn?

I dont like investigations like this being led by someone who has attachments within the game.

I agree.

Do you honestly believe he'll go out of his way to protect Red Sox players?

he's certainly not going out of his way to protect Yankee players :D

1. What did you expect, him to omit the "knowns"?

2. It would seem reasonable to expect those with connections to steroids in previous reports to be in this one, no?

3. I don't know who made the list, but my guess is formal/informal name usage was at the discretion of whoever took the time to post this. Could be real, could be fake, but it's proof of neither.

It seems like a reasonable list to me. No surprises, IMO.

No, I understand that the names on the list are reasonable...but the formatting makes me wary is all.

Besides, MSNBC has posted this list, and is sourcing WNBC and CNBC. So, in essence, NBC is citing themselves.

FYI - Dale and Holley just said there are numerous errors in the list.

double edit - Gary Matthews Jr. is not on the list. Seems to be a glaring omission.

We knew Giambi is on the list - Boone is so revealing. So - now what is the score of that 2003 ALCS game 7 again?

3 - 3

(Nixon 2-R HR erased too)

What do you mean? Does Clemens surprise you?

Or even A-Rod, Abreu, Pettitte, possibly even Posada. I think the only reason we're seeing Yankees names come up is because they said earlier "Prominent Yankees" and the media is going to be all over that one statement, and focus on Yankees players. Thought it will not come to a surprise if Red Sox players are listed.

They did say list is incomplete - I still think it could be valid - we will know soon.

Nah, I dont but I hate even having that idea in my head. They could have selected someone better. But I believe that he did this the right way. At the very least I hope.

We're in agreement then. IMO, him being the leader of the investigation FORCES Mitchell to name Sox players, especially a prominent player.

Varitek, if accurate, fits that bill.

I stated that possibility earlier and agree...credibility is bolstered by including Sox players.
