Per SNY - it is pathetic how much Miledge's trade value has dropped or Minaya must really hate him. Apparently he will not be part of a Santana trade.

SNY is reporting that the Mets have acquired Brian Schneider and Ryan Church from the Nationals for Lastings Milledge.

Guys Milledge is not the prospect everyone thought he was. All the mets rumors with him as the center piece were a joke.

They got a C and a up and coming OF for a Ego driven younger version of Milton Bradley, I think its a sweet deal.

Horrible trade by the Mets. Milledge has a 'tude, but what he needed was playing time and some time to allow him to adjust to the level.

What a great trade for the Nats. Church is solid, but I don't see any value in Schneider when they already have Estrada. Plus, Milledge can still mash, the questions were about his attitude, like ORS said, and his defense in center.

I don't know about this one.

Defensively, stat-wise, Schneider had a similar 2007 to IRod, Tek and Victor Martinez. He's not much with the stick, though.

Church hit .272 with 15 HRs, 70 RBIs, .813 OPS...not outstanding...not horrible. He is 29 and likely has little upside, though.

Milledge still has a big upside, IMO, although his 2007 #'s, if projected out to say 155 games, come to just about 18 hrs, 76 RBIs, 100Ks with only 34 BBs. For a 22 yr old, those numbers would be decent...but his performance to date, combined with the fact that he can be a douchebag, and I'm of the mind that no one really got fleeced here.

I did a huh what when I heard this. Even with diminished value you'd think he might've been able to at least bring back a chip they could've used to deal for Santana or Haren.

Word on the street is that the Twins weren't interested in Milledge but Carlos Gomez or Fernando Martinez instead.

Milledge's stock seems to have dropped dramatically.

I've read the Mets will non-tender Johnny Estrada and made the trade to get out of Guillermo Mota's contract ($3.2 million for 2008).

I remember when the Red Sox were talking to the Mets with Manny Ramirez on the radar. The big name from the Mets was Lastings Milledge. What happened to that guy? He was supposed to be all world a couple seasons ago.

Yup and when those rumors where floating I said Milledge was not a great prospect and he was over valued. going from a trade for Manny to Church and a C, seems I was pretty close to right about him. He can still turn it around but I don't think he ends up being more then a Milton Bradley.

When all the Vets had to knock him down a few pegs is when his value was starting to drop. NYM should have gotten something for him then, but they waited too long.

I've got to ask, how in the world did you come to this conclusion about Milledge? I'll be shocked if you watched him play regularly, and any kind of performance analysis of his MiLB play must lead to a conclusion of future stardom.

And, FWIW, if Milton Bradley could stay healthy and on the field, he'd be one of the elite OF's in the game. His performance is constantly being interupted and dragged down by nagging injury.

Turning things around? What does he have to turn around? He put up a .780 OPS as a 22 y/o adjusting to the highest level with infrequent playing time last year.

ORS, his skills could go way beyond Bradley. But this kid has an attitude problem and thats what will hold him back from becoming great. Going to a new organization might do him some good. I'm not saying he Never will blossom, just that h needs alot of work. He just seems to be one of those players with alot of issues to deal with. Some can coupe others can't.

As for Bradley, yes he has great skills, but is a hot head pain in the ass, pretty much like Milledge. In fact his most recent out burst cost him big.

So when putting a value on a player, this should be taken into account, which diminishes Milledges total value.

If the Mets thought this guy is the stud that some claim, they would have gotten more for him. What they got in return was C which they needed and none worth anyhting where available, and a 4th OF with a limite ceiling. It says to me the Mets where thinking lost cause, and they got what they could get for him and also fill a couple needs on the team as well. Nothing big, just a move to sure up the roster.

An attitude will hold him back from greatness? Rubbish. He'll be great if he has the talent to be great and attitude will have no bearing on that talent.

Also, Bradley's latest outburst is acknowledged by all to have been instigated by the umpire he was arguing with. While Bradley may be a hot head, an umpire should never escalate the situation. Their job is to remain emotionally detached from the game.

This looks to be a win-win trade to me.

The Mets are in "Go for It Now" mode, as they should be. For a guy a few years away from his prime, they acquired a batter lethal against right-handed pitching and the best defensive catcher in the National League. The Mets are more likely to reach the NLDS in 2008 because of this trade.

The Nats, who won't contend in 2008, have acquired an outfielder who'll look pretty darn good by 2010. Even next year they're going to feature Wily Mo Pena, Lastings Milledge, Austin Kearns, Ryan Zimmerman and Dmitri Young in the same batting order, and the Nats probably aren't going to be cellar-dwellers any more.

Well done by both sides, IMO.

he must be a f***ing jerk then

1 summer theyre discussing the best right handed hitter in our lives for him

18mos later they trade you for much less

of course they do have specific needs at C but come on

this guy must be a real cock

Milledge is likely more of a tool than any of use know. While I consider the trade a wash, with perception having been that Milledge was a rising star, I think its reasonable to expect more in return for him, but I think its likely known what a f***ing tool he is.
