Late night appearances

By Steve Silva, Boston.com Staff

Let the media commitments for the world champs begin.

Red Sox dancer and closer Jonathan Papelbon will be in New York this afternoon to tape an appearance for tonight's episode of the “Late Show with David Letterman” on WBZ-TV (Ch. 4, CBS) at 11:30 p.m. It's unlikely that the appearance will pass without Letterman demanding that Papelbon perform his Irish jig onstage.

The Dropkick Murphys are not scheduled to appear on Letterman tonight, but actor/comedian David Spade and magician/comedians Penn and Teller are also on the docket.

On Friday night, the suddenly outspoken Manny Ramirez is slated to appear on the "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" on WHDH-TV (Ch. 7, NBC) at 11:30 p.m. The Backstreet Boys are also scheduled to appear. No word on whether Manny plans to sing or dance along with the group.

Later on Friday night, David Ortiz is scheduled to appear on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," also on Ch. 7 at 12:30 p.m. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld is set to appear on the program with Big Papi.

...

Locally, Sox rookie sensation Dustin Pedroia will be signing autographs today at Modell's Sporting Goods in Medford starting at 3:00 p.m.

I just want to see Ortiz on Conan because Conan's show is by far the best. If you need proof look for 1864 (or some similar year) baseball on youtube.

It was removed due to terms of use violation.

Goddamn federal laws.

I missed the Late show tonight. Does anyone know if they will rerun it in the next day or so?

You may be able to eventually watch the interview on CBS' website on their "Innertube" or whatever it's called... not sure, though.

The first 4 questions of the interview were epic! http://smiliesftw.com/x/bowroflarms.gif

Letterman: "Really nice job." (audience applause) "Take me through the repertoire, what do you have? You've got the fastball."

Papelbon: "Well, I've got the fastball."

Letterman: "Where do you like the fastball, what speed, 95, 98, right in there?"

Papelbon: "95-plus usually works." (audience laughs)

Letterman: "Mm-hmm, all right, okay, the fastball, and you throw that most of the time, is that correct?"

Papelbon: "Most of the time, right."

Letterman: "What's your other pitches?"

Papelbon: "Well, I've got the splitter and now I'm working on a, kind of a slider/cutter in between."

Letterman: "Slider/cutter – ooh, is that legal?"

Papelbon: "No, not yet." (Dave, audience laugh)

That was awesome when he said something (forget what), and while the audience is laughing he just turns to Steve Carell and gives him a fist pound. I guess it doesn't sound funny...looked silly.

"the large father"

that one had me rolling around laughing, as did the thought of Ortiz bedazzling a lamborghini on the back of his jacket.

Ortiz had something bedazzled on the bag of his jacket tonight on Conan...

I love this team... so much character.
