I really didnt get the whole 2 yr thing either. At 33, he still might have 2 yrs of all star type performance in him and maybe a few yrs of good performance after that. This isnt as cut and dry as it is with Schilling and his obvious showing of age. Lowell seems to be turning back the clock.

If A-Rod came to Boston' date=' which I am not openly rooting for, I would like to think he'd play short.[/quote']

Considering A-Rod was best at SS, he'd be perfect, but we'd have to option out lugo. Good luck with that.

No. It will be either ARod or Lowell at 3B.

Thanks.

I'd rather have lowell stay then, even if Arod would benefit, but I guess I'm not putting my emotions aside.

Arod is a 3B at this point. He won't go back to SS.

I am not saying that's not true - but how are you so sure? Never heard him say that he won't go back to SS?

I think he can still play SS - and move to outfield or DH as he gets older.

I wonder how important youk is to the sox. Maybe lowell could move to 1B. :dunno:

To us fans, I wouldn't want him to go, but to the sox org. business is business.

A-Rod situation should be resolved much sooner than Lowell situation. If he does not opt out ( chances are 50% IMO) - we should just make sure that Lowell does not sign elsewhere.

I would think Youk is very important to the Sox. The infield should stay as is, IMO.

You realize infield includes Lugo? Not many fans REALLY want Lugo to stay.

We may be stuck with him - that's another story.

Ortiz was right in saying that Lowell was your team MVP this season. As much as Papi and Manny carry this team, it always seemed like Lowell was the one who made the big play, got the big hit, drove in the big run on nearly a daily basis. Without him, you guys would be in trouble. If you lose him, you would need a suitable replacement, and not a run of the mill kind of guy you can find on the scrap heap.

Maybe, just maybe you move Youkilis to 3rd and bring up Carter from AAA who absolutely mashes.

I would prefer someone else at SS but agree that we are stuck with him. I'm very happy with our 1st, 2nd and 3rd basemen.

It's never "out of the question"...this has just never been done before.

Can you recall an instance where a player has successfully transitioned back to SS after playing 4 or 5 years at 3B?

Let's not get carried away here. Yes, Lowell had a very valuable season, probably the team's MVP like Papi said. However, Lowell's second halves (except for this year) have been abysmal. However, I think that's because of the adjustments he has made. He now goes to all fields instead of being a dead pull hitter.

I want him to stay, if not for his production then for the reasons Theo mentioned. He's a clubhouse leader and one of the "core members of the organization."

I would feel very uneasy relying on Chris Carter at any point next year. If he takes Hinske's role, then fine, but anything other than that will upset me.

Has anyone thought about this? Manny leaves after an year and I don't think Lowell and Drew can provide enough protection for Papi.

One of the big reasons I think we need a big bat. I like A-Rod - but if it's not him - we need someone else.

True but you never know what kind of progression guys like Jason Place or Lars Anderson can make.

The whole situation is very odd - I agree to that. But - I never thought the best short-stop in the game will move to third base to begin with.

To me - even today - the best short stop for the NYY's plays on the right side of Derek Jeter.

If the prospects can get it done - that will certainly be the best scenario.

Pick up Manny's options?

dont be overly surprised if lowell and manny are gone and #13 is playing 3rd next year here.

the 2@5 hitters in boston have to be the most sought after batting posiitions for any ball player in the league

in front of papi and manny or behind papi and manny

in any case you're going to get some hacks in and this is a good reason why lowell had so much success

everyone saw what happened when manny was out

this offense was anemic

if they lose him and id say hes a goner because the front office pencil necks 1st order of business when they bought the team was waiving him and theyve been trying to move him ever since......

they're going to need an rbi guy to replace him and not like jose offerman replaced mo vaugh either.

arod had 150rbi?

theo gets distracted by shiny objects and glitter and always had a hard on arod so my senses say we're going to get involved in this arod thing inspite of lowells production,in spite of arods gagging like a bukkake queen in october and inspite of our teams current success.
