Stupid rookie move by Ellsbury down by 5 runs in the 9th inning. Gone are the days when a veteran would get in a kid's face to make sure he would never do it again.

Over on the Mets board they are screaming that a rook didn't get his first ever start tonight and that they went with a proven (to be bad) journeyman. They cited Jacob Ellsbury as evidence that it would've been appropriate to do so.

Now regarding the Sox, is it wrong to admit I'm nervous? No, this isn't about the other team wanting it more. This isn't HS football. It's about some shortcomings in the rotation at the moment coming at an inopportune time.

Who's to say that wont happen in the clubhouse tonight?
When the World Series $ meant something to the veterans, they really got into guys for doing things like this. Today, I don't think it is the same. At least you don't hear stories like the story from Enos Slaughter who in his rookie year walked back to the dugout and a veteran told him that if he was tired he could go back to the bushes. Slaughter said that from that day on he hit the top step of the dugout running onto and off the field.

I'm not siding with the Skanks fan on this forum - all I'm saying is that, yes, there are injuries that have really put a damper on rotations, etc., etc. - BUT, like any competitive sport, hell, make it any competitive situation in life, and there will always be an individual who "wants" that success that much more.

This might not be a good comparison, but look at Tiger. . .he doesn't talk much with his competitor for the round, nor does he acknowledge the gallery that much. . .he's DEEP in his zone. . .getting down to business.

Ah, enough of my blabbering. Let's just see if we can take the next couple back, and hope Manny & Crew come back just in time for PS play.

This board is surprisingly sanquine at the moment, despite the lead now being 3.5. It's a very different sort of Red Sox fan experience, which leads me to hope this is a different kind of Red Sox team.

I'm sure you don't have a clue what a "Red Sox fan experience" is having been on board the yankee train since way back in 96'.

I'm equally sure you don't know what a true "MFY experience" is either. See above. Consulting the thesaurus comes in handy doesn't it? As far as I can tell, so far, there is only one of your ilk even worth speaking with here.

It's hit or miss here. Most of us don't life and death this thing, but there are few who polarize their outlook based on the latest game.

I was in Vegas this week. At times I will bet on the Yankees when they are hot. I almost never bet on the Sox. I like to bet with my head and not my heart. I like every other Sox fan wanted to vomit after that game. NY ers out there were hoping for a carryover effect, and even the bookies had the Sox as underdogs on Saturday. Well, after having lost a bunch of games in a row to the Yanks, including a devastating loss on Friday that blew out the bullpen who could blame them for making the red hot Yanks the favorites. I too had a pit in my stomach going into the game, but then I thought, "wait a minute..they have us as a dog in our house with our ace going?" Then I thought we had to win one of the 3 and Saturday was probqably our best bet. I placed a large wager on the Sox for me, and I ordered a double vodka when Jeter hit the first inning homer. My head was right and my gut/heart was wrong. So, am I worried? Hell yes! But my head tells me that if we don't win tomorrow and the next day, we will one of them. Also, we should clean the table against Tampa over the weekend, and at some point before Sunday, the yankees will lose one or two games. It feels better when I realize that my gut is not at all rationale.

Dude, did you just accuse me of being a Yankees fan? Wow.

tonight's pitching matchup is in Toronto's favor, but all the sox need to do is get to that mushy pen and they will be just fine. Burnett was untouchable against us last week. 97mph heaters and then 80mph slow curves. Just sucks that we get to face all the Jays have next week in our 4 game set at home. Halladay/Marcum/McGowan/Burnett Should be a wild ride. Enjoy the day, be back tonight.

Dude....buddy....we need to have a serious talk. Now...this isn't the ALCS. This isn't a make or break game for your team. Nor was it a make or break series for your team. Even if you got swept, even if you dropped out of first place, you would have been a near mathematical lock to make the post season.

Now....stay with me here....you're in Vegas. Loose, easy women, looking for a quick romp in bed while they are away. Doesn't matter if they are single, or married, or in between. The ultimate adult playground. We haven't even gotten to the hookers yet. Let's not forget gambling. Not the sports kind, the all in type of gambling with two queens in your hand and one in the flop.

The Yankees, as much as I love them, would be far from my mind. Unless she was a hot bodied woman wearing a Yankees jersey with nothing underneath and unbuttoned. Even you would be a Yankee fan at that point. Come to think of it, if you gave me a hot blonde but wearing an Ortiz jersey ready to go to town on me, for the moment, go Sox. Sex before baseball. Remember, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.

Let's say the Sox win the division, going 6-5 the rest of the way, while the Yanks go 9-3 and finish one game back. Does that make anyone here comfortable going into the PS?

I don't want to see this team limp into the playoffs. I want to see them clicking, starting right now, leaving no doubt who the AL East champs are.

The opportunity was there to make a statement this past weekend and they did not capitalize. Maybe I'm making too much of the whole thing, but I would like to see the Sox go into the PS on a roll.

i was disapointed myself over the weekend result , BUT the bright side is we could of verry well swept them , i mean the friday night game we outplayed them for except the 8th inning , saturday it was no contest and sunday we were one swing away of winning it .

Just like the Cardinals and the Tigers went in on a roll?

It is of no real consequence how we finish. Game 1 of the playoffs, everyone starts at zero.

I....agree?

I'd rather the tam be healthy than going balls out to win the division. How'd the Yanks like Torre burning out Quantrill and Gordon in '04 to win the division?

Sure a team not on a roll can win it.

But did anyone ever hear a player or coach say "We limped into the playoffs and played like crap the last two weeks, so I think that makes us a confident team????"

I'd rather see them go in playing well.

I didn't see last night, but I don't see how you can say they "played like crap" in the Yankee series. Two pitchers peformed poorly in one game, and one starter was left in too long in the other. That was about it. If anyone played poorly it was the Yankees. They were completely asleep through 7 on Friday and rolled over on Saturday, but because of the pop in in their lineup they got away with it.

The Sox have played steady as she goes .600 baseball since the break. Meanwhile the Septic Tanks have had stretches of 8-2 followed by 2-8. I expect them to continue in the .600 to .650 range the next two weeks (8-4 from here out sounds about right), and play about that pace when they get into the post season.
