I can't believe the Red Sox are still playing J.D. Drew out in right field consistently. This guy is an awful hitter, and he was never good to begin with. Theo is a f***ing idiot for giving him this much money. I don't give a s*** what the dumb SABR sats say, he doesn't have a win at all costs mentality. This guy is garbage, and I would much rather have Trot Nixon out in RF who gave it his all 100% of the time.

No kidding. Have you see how clean his hat is?

Why the f*** do you feel the need to make a sarcastic comment. We made it to the ALCS in 2003 with Trot Nixon and we won the World Series in 2004 with Trot Nixon. What the f*** has J.D. Drew done so far?

We have the best record in baseball in 2007 with JD Drew. If we win the world series, do we say that JD Drew played well?

From 2003 to now, he's played more, hit for about the same average, hit more homers, stolen more bases, put up a better OBP and SLG, all while maintaining clean headgear. You have to be impressed.

Look, Drew's been a disappointment. But he was the most talented guy available in the offseason . This team has needed a #5 hitter since the end of '04, a season in which Trot only played 48 games. Drew's baseline was just a tick under Trot's stratospheric '03. He's had a bad year. It happens. The problem isn't how dirty his hat is, though.

At least you're giving reasonable answers. But honestly, do you want J.D. Drew up in a big spot?

Avg. HRs 2Bs RBIs OBP OPS

Nixon .257 3 17 31 .346 .691

Drew .259 8 26 50 .362 .755

You wanna cry about the money, and how it was a bad investment, could impact the organization going forward, etc. maybe you have a case.

But if you think Trot would be performing at a higher level, look at the comparison above and tell me what Nixon has done so far.

In fact, Drew has played in 33 MORE GAMES this year. When Nancy Drew has played in more games than you, ya got problems.

Are you upset over the WMP trade too?

I understand that Drew was the best player available on the market, but considering who is available in terms of outfielders after this season, wouldn't you have rather waited (Hunter, Jones, Rowand, and Cameron)? There were a lot of people against the move when the Red Sox signed Drew, and it is becoming quite clear that those feelings were warranted. Why couldn't Theo see this coming?

Honestly, take a look at his offseason this year. J.D. has been an awful signing. Although he's come on a bit lately Lugo has been a horrible signing. Dice K, although impressive at times, has been extremely inconsistent so far this year. What really worries me about Dice K is that historically Japanese pitchers imports pitch there best in when they first get to the MLB.

Theo has been awful since the championship year, and he has got to go.

If you thought I was saying that I would rather have Trot Nixon right now over Drew, then you misinterpreted my initial post. Right now, Drew is obviously better then Nixon, but I'm merely pointing out that I would rather a player like Nixon than a player like Drew.

I was only using Nixon to show you guys who I think the Red Sox should have right now. Drew doesn't go all out 100% of the time. Stats don't show everything.

Takashi Saito, LAD (2006-07)

Shigetoshi Hasegagawa, SEA (2002-05)

Kazuhisa Ishii, LAD (2002-04), NYM (2005)

They all seemed to have the most success their second year in the MLB. The difference between them and Matsuzaka is that Dice-K is younger and shows more room for improvement.

Who gives a s*** if he doesn't show any emotion and has a clean outfit?

Just because over-emotional fans are willing to die for a team, doesn't mean the players have to. He seems to be calm and not very emotional. They're in first, so I'm not going to bitch a whole lot about Drew.

You'd still want his head even if he got dirty, you're just looking for stuff 'cause hes not as good as everyone hoped he could be. Focus on that, not this 100% ********. I'm willing to be he looks the same mid-coitus. Honestly, the win at all costs mentality is scary and show a HUGE lack of judgment.

I think he'll do better next year, but it'll be interesting to see what happens with Ellsbury coming up and ready. They have to send someone off: Manny, Drew or Crisp. Hell, maybe Manny will play first and Youk will be back at third? HA! I'd get a kick out of that, It'd be like the having Harpo Marx @ first.

Drew has an OBP of .432 in September. He's getting on base and this is what we paid him for. Drew is fine with me if he keeps this up down the stretch.

Oh God. Another one? People will find anything to bitch about. IT'S ONE YEAR. CHILL OUT. He'll have better years.

And by the way, if JD Drew happens to be a post-season hero (crossing my fingers), you're the first person that I expect to eat a s*** load of crow. And you're not allowed to get excited when he does something good either.

Trade Coco, replace with Ellsbury, and keep Drew in RF. I always give adjustment years. I don't give a s*** what kind of emotion a player shows. Just because he doesn't show that he's pissed doesn't mean he isn't. It isn't about his emotion; it's about production. He's having a disappointing year, but there's nothing about the guy that I dislike personally. Would you be bitching if he didn't show emotion and was having a good year? I don't think so.

What you're doing is complaining that he isn't as much of a dirt dog as Trot was. It's a very flawed way of looking at things. Even if he was getting pissed publicly and throwing s*** around, you would still be on his case because of a lack of production. That's what it comes down to. I don't care about emotion, I care about production. While I'm disappointed with his performance this year, s*** happens. He's having a bad year. There will be better ones. I always allow for an adjustment year, and then I look for an increase in production. If he's still s***ing bricks come next season, I'll be annoyed. But now? Not so much. He's frustrating, but I'm not giving up on him.

so since he is having a good half month against some of the worst pitching money can buy he cannot be considered a bust?

Overall, fire_theo's claim is ridiculous in wanting Trot over Drew based solely on performance. Nixon can barely move without tearing a ligament or breaking a bone. The guy played hard and is paying the price for it. He is not a regular starter in the bigs, hell if it wasnt for his distant past, he wouldnt be a major leaguer at all. Nixon is done.

At the same time, Drew has been awful. He's being paid to be a middle of the order force and he is producing worse than a gimpy Johnny Damon. If he wanted to use the argument that the contract is ridiculous, he would have a great point. If he wanted to use the point that Drew's contract and position demands will put a strain on development/performance, you have another point. But to say that right now Trot Nixon is better than JD Drew is stupid, pure and simple.

As a yankee fan, I get to sit back and watch this bear of a contract unfold for 4 more seasons and say, hey I called it. Signing a 32 yr old player with a history of being unable to play through pain to a 5 yr 70 mil contract while KNOWING he had a MAJOR defect in his shoulder is bad business and should be a black mark on Theo's otherwise pristine record. Drew is not fast enough or good enough a fielder to play CF, so he is clogging up a position that requires middle of the order production. And assuming that he regresses as he ages like most players, he may not get much better. Going around the league, there are few teams with a worse RFer. He's the worst RF in the AL East and aside from Texas who has no set RFer, no other team has a worse set RFer. He will be a bear, and with his contract being so fresh and his production being so poor, he is not tradeable or waivable and the sox will not want to eat such a large amount of money for nothing. So this guy plays for at least the next 2-3 yrs until the amount of sunk cost drops precipitously enough to cut him. Either way, looks good from our end.

What about drafting Clay Buchholz or Jacoby Ellsbury? What would you have done differently? He was right about Damon, Pedro, maybe not Lowe, because he would have been a better option then Clement, but still at the time that wasn't the case. He has upgrade the rotation since 04, he has a better 3rd basemen then in 04 (this year's Mike Lowell is better than 04 Bill Mueller) He has a better Bullpen. Actually I might revise my rotation assesment because if DiceK can pitch like he did from June to August, then we have a much better rotation then we did in 04.

Since 2004:

Good Theo :

1. Let Pedro go.

2. Let Damon go.

3. Draft Ellsbury/Bucholtz.

4. Get Matsuzaka (even with struggles best free agent starter with economical salary - if you do not consider posting fee).

Bad Theo:

1. Getting Drew.( # 1 in my list at this time - may be he will turn it around).

2. Letting O'cab walk and getting Rent here and getting Lugo here( I know Lugo turned it around - still I like O'Cab).

3. Trading Arroyo - he is not good but we got nothing from that trade.

4. Byrd/Meridith fiasco with San Diego for a guy whose only qualification is he can catch knuckleball.

5. Let Carlos Pena walked - Yeah I know noone saw that etc. - still it is in my list.

Feel free to add whatever I missed. I would say it is 50/50.

Still it is a bad trade IMO. I think we could have given byrd more time to det adjusted to Knuckleball. We do not have a succesor to Tek at this point - and Byrd certainly could have been that guy.

I'm guessing you mean Bard, not Byrd, right?

Sorry, that's just me being picky.
