Belichek said in his in comment that they did not use the video tape for in game adjustments. So apparently they were going to use it for coaching material the next time the two teams played?

Ok' date=' if my memory serves me correctly we were leading by more than 3 at the half of the superbowls and we only won all three by 3 points. We generally played worse in the 2nd half of the games, so the whole 'stealing signs and making halftime adjustments' theory is pretty moot.[/quote']

the Eagles super bowl was tied at halftime...

What a piece of s*** this guy is. Friggin New England *******s.

Colts will repeat. Write that down.

The Pats are a much better team than the Colts are this year.

Posted
No one said that last year?

Colts are a good team, them, NE and SD should represent the AFC this year. I never said the pats will win the SB...i said we should win our division (afc east). The playoffs will def be interesting. Of course all of this is way down the road, and a lot will happen before then

I think this will be a tough year for the pats , cause everytime they lose people will be like " I guess the pats arent that good when their not cheating" ..or if they win " they must have been cheaing again"

it will be interesting to see how the pats make out this season

Yeah, the cheating sucks, but the amount of people that think the Pats won in the past because of this cheating is quite low. People think they won because their players and discipline is a lot better than others. This isn't the type of cheating that gives you a huge competitive advantage. Cheating is cheating, yeah, but it's not like the whole team was shooting needles up their asses.

I happen to think that if the Pats keep on winning, this whole thing will die down. I know what you mean though. Besides, when have the Pats ever cared about what other people have thought? The only time they use what other people are saying is when they get counted out. Then they use that to their advantage. They don't let negativity in the media get them down. If anything, I think this whole episode is going to even further spark a fire in this team.

Actually I just heard on WEEI that Andy Reid and Mike Martz both came out and said that the pats beat them fair and square in the superbowl, and that it's over with.

Bel should take his licks and move on. Losing a first round pick next year will be tough to stomach. Do they throw the season for one pick?

They have San Francisco's 2008 first-rounder. Even if they make the playoffs they'll still get to pick in the first round.

I agree though. The punishment fits the crime. Pay the fine and move on. I do think this will die down and just won't be significant anymore. There are a lot of worse things going on. Just because other teams do it and don't get caught doesn't mean they're right and the Pats are wrong. They're all wrong.

Interesting read:

http://www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/Article.php?Page=1634

Here's an except:

That acknowledgement makes this story, by definition, a media-created firestorm. As the Cold, Hard Football Facts noted in The Boston Herald Thursday, sharks were already circling Belichick, waiting to move in for the kill. His violation of league policy simply puts a little blood in the water that whips up his critics into a fever, especially those critics in the media who have felt slighted by him in the past.

But consider the reaction from the coaching community:

-Don Shula is the winningest coach in NFL history. According to several reports, he actually put the blame on the Jets for allowing themselves to be taken advantage of, perhaps fully aware that every coach in history has made the same effort as Belichick (even if they didn’t film the effort).

-Former NFL coach Chuck Knox dismissed the controversy as "a whole lot about nothing," according to Art Martone of the Providence Journal.

-Terry Francona, the manager of MLB's Boston Red Sox, dismissed signal-stealing as a common practice in his sport.

-Hall of Fame football coach George Allen was notorious for spying on his opponents' practices.

-John Tomase of the Boston Herald cites a former NFL cameraman who said that "I can guarantee you the Jets and everyone else are doing it, too."

How did they get San Fran's 1st rounder?

If i remember correctly, they had 2 already this year and traded their first pick this year (#24 i think), for SF pick next year. Then they drafted Meriweather at #26

lol, nice.

I think we've pretty much beaten this as much as we can though. I think we can all agree that the Pats (and more specifically, Belichick) were caught cheating, and should pay the price. Goodell handled the situation correctly, and now we all just need to move on. I think we can all also agree that this didn't give the Pats as much of a competitive advantage as some people make it out to be. They got caught cheating, and they'll pay. Now move on.

God this is hilarious. I knew they were f***in cheaters. Now they need to put an asterisk on all the super bowl titles.

Dynasty* :D

Just kidding, Pats fans.

Bellichick just seems like the type of coach that would want to make sure any advantage the Patriots could get they will get. He doesn't disclose injuries, now he's stealing signals, I'd be shocked if he isn't cheating in other ways.

I don't think the goal is to discourage it. I'm pretty confident in assuming this goes on all over the league, and I think if you got the commish to be honest, he'd tell you he's pretty sure of the same. Where the problem was is in the fact that they got caught last year, were warned not to do it again, the rule was put in place over the offseason, and then they blatantly did it again on Week 1, using the same guy and all. Belichick basically told the commish to go screw by doing that. Hence the punishment, which was fair if you ask me.

I don't think he really CHEATS (I mean, yeah, getting caught was stupid and WAS cheating), but there are so many worse things that you could get caught doing. I don't think he pushes the envelope. However, I do think that he studies these rules religiously and looks for a way to twist the language in the rule book.

Hopefully the penalty is harsh enough to discourage other teams from cheating in the same way.

It won't stop. Teams will just be more careful. I'm certain that it goes on all over the place.

I agree. It goes on everywhere. I doubt Belichick breaks any rules that other coaches don't.

You might be right in that regard. And I agree with ORS completely... I think this harsh punishment was more or less because Belichick ignored Goodell's warnings and at this point in the professional sports landscape -- but I think it served that purpose and to discourage other teams from doing this. He has also threatened more penalties if the Patriots don't turn over all the information that they got from spying. I think Belichick's interpretation of the rule is fascinating... his interpretation was that you can get that information for future games, you just can't use them for that game. Well, that's according to him anyway, I'm not so sure that's the truth...

On another note, Roger Goodell is such a bad ass. He's just that one guy you do not want to f*** with because he will punish the hell out of you for it.

You're tellin me. Mort from ESPN is reporting Goodell is asking BB for all the tapes resulting in more possible punishment.

My understanding is there will be more punishment given out if he's caught again.

the commish asks for all the pats tapes from 2000 on....and then leaks the tape to the press! Nice control he's got over that office. Maybe when the commish calls and asks for the tapes, Kraft and BB just say "we took out the middleman and turned them over to FOX"

On a side note all of the Fox guys today said that all the teams round the league do this. Jimmy Johnson said he was taught to do the exact same thing (with a camera) 18 years ago in KC. Howie said "all those coaches who called out BB, are hypocrites"

It's over, i wish it would all just go away and we could get back to football

I would argue Goodell runs a tighter ship than Tagliabue.

You're beating the dead horse. I'm sure it goes on all over the place, but the Patriots were the morons who got caught.
