This is what baseball is all about....

Tonight's game had one of the most touching moments I have seen in baseball. Harlan Chamberlain, Joba's father, has been disabled since he was 9 months old with polio. The family was extremely poor. He has no ability to use his left arm, deaf in his left ear, and needs a scooter to get around. Because of his disabilities, he has never seen his son pitch in the major leagues. Tonight, he made the three hour trip from Nebraska to see his son pitch.

When Joba trotted out in the 7th, Harlan burst into tears. There wasn't a dry eye amongst anyone who watched the game tonight at the bar where I watched the game.

Sometimes, in moments like these, we remember the true bond baseball formed for nearly all of us. The one between us and our fathers.

Thank you Harlan and Joba.

Sadly I never got to have that chance with my father.

My grandfather is the one who raised me on baseball. He's 70 now with horrible legs and knees from years playing catcher.

It's good to see that there's still people out there that care for the game and for the values it holds. And not just entertainment as the media makes it out to be.

Great story.

Was it shown on the YES Network? I could use one of those right now.

EDIT* Watching the archived game on MLB.TV. Good pick.

its a nice moment that YES did they best to f*** up. the announcers should provide the back story then shut up for like 25 seconds with a close up on his father. dont yap throughout the shot and use a f***ing telestrator to point out the tears on his cheek

Unrelated to the Joba story - but I have the painful misfortune of watching YES network every night (I live in Brooklyn and my wife is a yankee fan) and that is the worst sports network I have ever witnessed. Most of the time they do not have the score up and if you just switched channel you will have no clue what the score is in the middle of a game for minutes. Michael Kay is beyond annoying - he has big man crush for Jeter and A-Rod and they can do no wrong. I understand that they will be biassed towards the Yankees - but he is beyond all logic fanatic which makes it hard to listen to him. For example - I was watching the Baltimore game in mlb.TV premium and the O's broadcasters called D'Cab throwing to D'Pad - plain and simple stupid. Michael Kay would never/ever done that inthe Joba incident. Al Leiter is actually not too bad and at least has an objective approach towards the game.

Can we keep the focus on this thread on Joba and Harlan, and not the YES Network? Don't ruin a good story fellas.
