I don't think the SEC play is what made LSU's D decline. It was the injury to Dorsey. He's been playing hurt since a chop block (in which game I can't remember' date=' but it was about mid-season). He's a top-5 pick. When you lose that in the middle of your line, the rest of the D will suffer some.[/quote']

The chop block happened in the Auburn game.

Not having Dorsey at full strength has really hurt LSU, especially last weekend against Arkansas. Like you were saying, the rest of the D has suffered with him not being 100% and it shows. They still have a pretty dang good defense though.

I find this to be absolutely disturbing...

You have a major conference team that was #1 at one point with 1 loss against a team that was also a #1 at one point in the season, not making it to the championship game. Then you have a team that went undefeated in a 1A conference that isnt playing for the BCS.

Yet you have LSU, who lost to two, count it, two unranked teams playing for the national title? I dont have a problem with OSU playing in the BCS, although I think they will get smoked again. But the fact that Kansas AND Hawaii can have a better record and lose to a better opponent or go flat out undefeated in the process is damn near criminal.

Playoffs are indicated.

I'm on board with Hawaii, but there's no case for Kansas. Sure, they lost to a more worthy opponent, but it was the only good one they faced all year. LSU lost two, yes. But it was to two in-conference opponents in hands down the toughest conference, against two Heisman candidates that played at the top of their games, and it took 3 OTs each time, and despite those losses, they have wins against quality opponents in their record.

Sorry, Ohio State played NOBODY this year and are undeserving of their top ranking. You can make a case for Oklahoma getting in the title game against LSU.

See Red does have a point in saying that a loss is a loss, whether it's by 1 or 50. That's why there's no such thing as a quality loss. This is the same argument used by Michigan last year when they lost to Ohio State, and the eventual national champs leapfrogged them in the polls.

I'd hazard to guess that Kansas and Hawaii's opponents combined won about 35% of their games. And together, had only one win against a ranked team... Hawaii over Boise State. I like Hawaii, and have defended them a great deal but they've looked terrible on the road. Almost losing to a terrible Washington team last night, almost losing to Louisiana Tech, almost losing to San Jose State, and almost losing to Nevada. Those weren't just close games, those were games where Hawaii was in positions that it seemed certain their undefeated run would end. They deserve the BCS, but they don't deserve the National Championship game. Kansas deserves none of it. They got handled pretty easily by the only good team they've played all year. LSU was the right choice... with as cannibalistic as the SEC is, their two triple OT losses don't look so bad. Plus, they won their conference, which is more than most teams ahead of them can say.

With as much of a clusterf*** as this is... in a weird way, I think the BCS worked this year. The regular season really was a playoff and it made for the most exciting regular season in the history of sports. It's not the greatest system... and I'd rather see a four team playoff -- no more than four... but the BCS is alright.

By the way... what do you guys think about 3-loss Illinois sneaking in? Ron Zook getting in over Florida only because the SEC already has two teams BCS bowling. Pleasant suprise... I think USC showed ASU to be frauds.

I think OSU will give LSU a better game than they did Florida last year because LSU isn't as fast or explosive on offense as the Gators were.

But at first glance, I can't see OSU playing a full 60 minutes with the Tigers.

IMO, if Dorsey's healthy, the LSU defense is much, much better than the Florida defense if last season.

I'm wondering how tOSU is gonna put points on the board against that team.

Heisman Finalists:

Tim Tebow

Colt Brennan

Chase Daniel

Darren McFadden

No real surprises ON the list. How about surprises left OFF the list?

Mine are Kevin Smith and Dennis Dixon.

Every day I go back and forth between Tebow and McFadden. But, in the end, I'd probably put it this way:

1. Tebow

2. McFadden

3. Dennis Dixon

4. Kevin Smith

5. Brennan

Dixon should have been a finalist, depite his injury. He still did enough. He was my #1 until he missed those games.

Posted

So would that make Dixon your #1 had he not missed time? I just don't see where Dixon even compares...

Look, it's not even close. I love Darren McFadden but his only prayer is the voters not wanting to give it to a Sophomore, which would be criminal. Tim Tebow has to be the Heisman winner.

22 Rushing Touchdowns... which is 7 more than Darren McFadden and is an all-time SEC record. That is insane for a quarterback who doesn't run an option offense.

51 Total TD's by a single player in a conference like the SEC is incredible. Tebow should run away with it.

... and I hate the Gators.

You could certainly at the very least make the case for Dixon as evidenced by how quickly Oregon when in the tank afterward.

You could also make a very strong case for McFadden. Lots of Tebow's rushing TDs were of

That being said, Tebow will probably win it.

tebow wins the heisman this and next year but how many white running backs get drafted?

he hasnt done enough with his arm just yet but if he can indeed throw at the nfl level he will be the real deal.

mcfadden will be an nfl superstar and would look very good in foxboro next year

scary isnt it?

the 49ers will have the 1-2 or 3 pick i feel/

we get it...wow

Tebow was the second highest rated passer in college ball this year. The top 5 are:

Bradford - OU

Tebow - UF

Brennan - UH

Dixon - Oregon

Kaepernick - Nevada

They have done more with their arm to warrant drafting Tebow as a RB?

rex grossman shattered records at florida

gino torretta won a heisman and alex smith was the 1st or 2nd pick of the 49ers a couple years ago with an 11-0 record at utah with the same coach in essentially the same offensive package.

if tim tebow attempts 25 carries a game in the nfl he will be breathing thru a respirator by week 2....

im not saying he cant be effective,he can be if he can throw an 18 yard out with some velocity

but the book is still out on what kind of nfl qb he can be...

to me hes got a lot of vince young in him which is a good thing but mentally he will be challenged the 1st time he meets a nfl safety thats his size and has very bad intentions.

im open minded

i want him to succeed

The Smith comp is a fair one because of the system. However, Smith did it in the Mtn West, not the toughest defensive conference in college football. We'll see. I get a lot of his games on the tube here in FL, and from what I've seen, he has the tools to succeed at the next level.

... On second thought, I'm glad Missouri got screwed since otherwise, we wouldn't get this picture...

What a recruiting tool for Urban Meyer, especially if he plays all four years of his eligibility. "So, stud WR where would you rather play, the offensively deficient FSU and Miami, or with the reigning Heisman QB in a wide open system?"

I also have to say....without getting into any religion in sports debates...that sometimes I get annoyed with athletes who praise God and give all the credit to him, only because I don't think they are sincere.

I will say I never felt that way about Tebow.

Yeah, that piece they did about his family demonstrated he's not just talking the talk. Oh, and check out his GF. Praise Gawd!

I agree. I was actually thinking the same thing. He deserved the award... I like McFadden, and feel bad that he had to settle for second again, but Tebow had an amazing year. I like this part from the ESPN article...

The night before Tebow announced that he would attend Florida, Meyer asked assistant coach Greg Mattison, who recruits Jacksonville, what he thought Tebow would do. Tebow had winnowed his choices to Florida and Alabama.

"If we don't get him, that will set our program back 10 to 15 years," Mattison said.

"We'll be fine," Meyer replied. "Let him go to Alabama."

"No, we won't," Mattison said. "It will set us back 10 to 15 years."

That's some high praise for an 18 year old but the kid's been great in those two years since. People can say what they want about how he got his stats and all that but I don't like the Gators, and after having watched just about every game of theirs, I think his numbers are legit. Sometimes I scratch my head at how anybody can stop that Florida offense.

Anyone watching the ASU/Texas game right now? Unreal turn of events...

3rd and 11 on the Texas 14, down 21-0, ASU's QB gets hit, throws a backwards pass, and bounces towards the Texas sidelines. Upon first glance, it seemed Texas recovered and ran it back in to ASU territory. But upon review, a Texas manager touched the ball in play, resulting in an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against Texas. Half the distance to the goal, ASU has 4th and 3 on the 7, and scores on the next play. ASU makes Texas go three and out, and are now driving for another score.

Instead of a possible 28-0 Texas lead, ASU is right back in the football game. Unbelievable.

And as I type, the ASU QB overthrows a wide open receiver on 4th and 2.

I missed the Florida/Michigan game, unfortunately... I really wanted to see that one. I was in Orlando on Church St. for New Years eve and spent the rest of New Years day driving back and recovering -- but there were a ton of Michigan and, obviously, Florida fans all over the place. Totally worth it, though... the girls dancing/selling drinks in the bar we went to were dressed in either Michigan or Florida stuff... all of a sudden I'm a Wolverines fan. :dunno:
