Hey, we're scoring late. I'm pretty happy with what I saw tonight given that the entire bottom half of our lineup were outs...

I'm ok with losing because of our bullpen, if we take this kind of offense to the park every night from here until september 14th, we'll be in good position to put the Skanks away once and for all (yeah, im breakin' on the demeaning nicknames, its that time).

We won't lose many because of the pen and really, you can tag this one on timlin in a big way. We've been kind of on the verge of another explosion like we had in may, and if it comes mid sept and keeps going into october, I'm fine with that. I feel like this team is going to come around in a big way.

That said, Varitek looked like a 2 year old and our offense has been bad for too long. Time for Youk to get hot, time for Coco to go back to hitting the ball hard, time for Tek to step up and earn that C on his jersey at the plate, not behind it.

Lugo has cooled, but he is not in a terrible slump. If Pedroia and Crisp get hot we'll be okay and start putting some games in the lefthand column.

Pedroia has been hot as a pistol all year long. How awesome is that kid? Swings and misses only 8% of the time. EIGHT PERCENT. That is ridiculous. Tough to strike out, makes great contact, great line drive hitter. He has been huuuuge for this team and will be going forward.

Yeah, Lugo cooled down, but I don't know how much I expect for him to turn it back on. I don't know how we can expect that when for the majority of this season he has done nothing. I'm a big Theo fan, and I've defended his bad signings before because his scrap heap pick ups have been amazing (Ortiz, Mueller, Timlin, Embree for a while, Bellhorn, and the list goes on) but shortstop is a position we have been addressing every season and the revolving door should have stopped spinning with OC. It sucked to see him go. Theo chased the bigger name in Renteria, and left behind the guy who proved he could do it on the big stage. The problem is, this team has been shaken up, and we don't have too many guys who have done it here for us. We need to keep a core of guys together for the long haul, and fill in here and there, this drastic make-over season after season hopefully ends now. I can't defend Lugo or Drew because they're awful signings. Drew seems to be tailor made for this offense at a glance, but when you watch him play every day its clear isn't focused. He can't handle Boston.

I love defending Theo, and I think hes a great GM, but man, what an awful couple of signings.

He let Carlos Pena slip through his fingers. He would have been a huge upgrade as the backup first baseman.

Mirabelli has been activated from the disabled list. Kevin Cash will likely stay on board as the 3rd catcher

September Callups

LHP Jon Lester-

RHP Clay Bucholz (24 games, 8-5, 2.44 ERA)- 125.1 innings, 87 Hits, 39 Runs (34 ER), 9 HRs, 35 Walks, 171 Ks

OF Jacoby Ellsbury (104 games)- 141 for 436 (.323 avg) (.387 obp) (.424 slg) (.811 ops) 24 Doubles, 7 Triples, 2 HRs, 41 RBIs, 82 Runs, 38 Walks, 54 Ks, 41 SBs

OF Brandon Moss (133 games)- 139 for 493 (.282 avg) (.363 obp) (.471 slg) (.834 ops) 41 Doubles, 2 Triples, 16 HRs, 78 RBIs, 66 Runs, 61 Walks, 148 Ks, 3 SBs

RHP Bryan Corey (58 games, 6-8, 3.69 ERA)- 68.1 innings, 57 Hits, 31 Runs (28 ER), 6 HRs, 20 Walks, 67 Ks

IF Royce Clayton (7 games)- 4 for 28 (.143 avg) (.200 obp) (.250 slg) (.450 ops) 3 Doubles, 3 RBIs, 2 Walks, 10 Ks

Personally I wouldve rather seen Hughes get the call up over Corey. Royce Clayton, who's possibly a worse hitter than Alex Cora... over Bobby Scales, Jed Lowrie and Joe McEwing? The bench will now have 3 right handed options in the form of Doug Mirabelli, Kevin Cash and Royce Clayton

Travis Hughes (56 games, 7-6, 24 saves, 1.82 ERA)- 74.1 innings, 60 Hits, 24 Runs (15 ER), 3 HRs, 29 Walks, 69 Ks

Bobby Scales (118 games)- 124 for 418 (.297 avg) (.372 obp) (.478 slg) (.851 ops) 27 Doubles, * Triples, 11 HRs, 57 RBIs, 64 Runs, 47 Walks, 91 Ks, 13 SBs

Jed Lowrie (129 games)- 145 for 481 (.301 avg) (.397 obp) (.511 slg) (.909 ops) 46 Doubles, 8 Triples, 13 HRs, 70 RBIs, 81 Runs, 75 Walks, 86 Ks, 5 SBs

Joe McEwing (118 games)- 124 for 460 (.270 avg) (.318 obp) (.378 slg) (.696 ops) 22 Doubles, 2 Triples, 8 HRs, 47 RBIs, 49 Runs, 28 Walks, 100 Ks, 6 SBs

I don't think anybody saw Carlos Pena exploding like he has. He was a huge talent when he came up, but he was doing everything he could to be average for the last few years.

So uh' date=' yeah, still no Breslow?[/quote']

Hey Schil, just heard on NESN from Gordon Edes that Breslow has indeed been called up. Mustve been a last minute decision

Red Sox recalled LHP Craig Breslow from Triple-A Pawtucket.

One more callup for the Red Sox. Breslow looked like a better option a couple of months ago. He had a 1.85 ERA before the break for Pawtucket and a 7.99 mark afterwards. It doesn't make much sense that Boston is calling up a lefty specialist who can't be used in close games.

Roto again getting some facts mixed up. Breslow isnt a lefty specialist as he can be effective against both lefties and righties
