When the Yanks played briefly at Shea, our family was there to see a Sox-Yanks game. As we approached the park, Rizzuto walks by and says hi, so my brother says "Mr. Rizzuto, can I have your autograph?" Rizzuto says "sure sonny" (in that well-known tone of his) and signs for both of us, pats us on the head and thanks US.

RIP, Phil.

I tip my cap to him. RIP.

He will be missed.

I remember one time a while ago, I was up late watching Gameshow Network, and it was an old episode of "What's My Line?" and they had a "Mystery Guest" on that episode, turns out it was Rizzuto and I watched it, looked like he had a good time on that show.

My favorite announcer of all time.

Probably the biggest loss for any fan is not hearing this guy. The guy made you feel like you were sitting on your grandfather's lap as he was telling you about baseball.

In a day and age where announcers go for "signature calls" and "gimmicks", Rizzuto just told you a story for nine innings. The Sporting News or Sports Illustrated wrote an article about him and his announcing technique. It ended with "Don't ever change".

Ted Williams said that the reason why the Yankees won all those championships and the Red Sox didn't was because the Yankees had Rizzuto and the Red Sox didn't. For those of you who are younger, Rizzuto was the original David Eckstein. Just a better fielder, hitter, bunter, and runner. Oh, and smaller, too. I don't think there is a player in the Hall of Fame who got more out of his talents than this guy.

RIP Scooter. Heaven got itself one great shortstop, announcer, and guy.
