Ill look for a link, but according to NESN it has been confirmed and Gagne has agreed to be the setup man for Murphy, Gabbard and another player.

EDIT: ENGEL BELTRE THE THIRD PLAYER IN THE DEAL.

Bo-f***ing-ya.

Okajima

Gagne

Papelbon

Lights. out.

Pitching wins championships and we have 3 varifiable closers, which reminds you of so many great WS teams. The bullpen is SICK.

Kudos Theo.

I'm surprised that Beltre was moved, but he's only 17. That's a BIG deal for Texas too, but won't be seen for a few years.

Again, hell yeah.

I wonder if that frees up the Sox ability to move MDC in a Dye deal. It will be interesting to see if they pull that off...

Sox have Gagne deal

Eric Gagne has reportedly agreed to come to the Red Sox and be the setup man, according to NESN's Tom Caron. The Sox would send outfield prospects David Murphy and Engel Beltre, along with pitcher Kason Gabbard, to Texas, according to NESN.

Thats a sweet BP. We haven't ( atleast as of now I haven't heard anything) upgraded the lineup, but we might have enough there. Now with a good starting rotation and a sweet BP we should beable to make our way nicely down the stretch run.

Aiiiiiiiiight. So Tavarez is likely starting tomorrow.

Is that official??

It would be a nice time to give Clay Buchholz a start or two instead of Tavarez.

Anyone know anything about Delcarman's ability to start? Not now, because he's not conditioned for it right now, but his stuff reminds me much more of a starter's stuff than a relievers. His body type is starter-ish as well.

I would like to buy Danny Ainge and Theo Epstein a drink.

A very solid day for boston sports.

We couldv'e still used a bat off the bench. But I geuss I can't be gready.Good Job Theo.

Man, I was stoked to hear about this after coming home from the Mud Hens game this afternoon. I honestly felt that the Sox were going to stand pat, but this solidifies the bullpen in so many ways. 6 innings and a lead will spell disaster for opposing teams.

what this tells me though is that the spark the lineup needs is gonna have to come from a September callup, who will have to win a spot on the playoff roster as I dont see any way Pena can be on that roster

Gagne over Okajima? I don't like that idea. Okajima has been solid and it wouldn't be good to mess with his spot in the pen. still a great day fo Boston sports.

press conference on NESN now

THEO:

-Gagne primarily in a set-up role

-Pen was a strength but Gagne makes this an elite group

-Papelbon thrilled to have him as are others

-Draft picks were a big part, may not have done deal had there been no draft pick compensation. (1st round/sandwhich or sandwhich/2nd rounder depending on who signs him)

-Couple targets for bats, had a strong offer for a "player" (Dye) but the team appears to be keeping him, can sleep at night knowing the current team

Theo also announced that Brendan Donnely will undergo Tommy John surgery. He applauded him for keeping it quiet so the rangers couldn't drive the price of Gagne up.

The best bullpen in baseball has just gotten better. Something Id like to call the 3-headed monster (name in Greek mythology?)... Okajima for the 7th, Gagne for the 8th, Papelbon for the 9th. This also gives added insurance that Okajima wont be overused by the time September comes around

I wish Gabbard, Murphy and Beltre all the best and hope they succeed in Texas. Hey Gabbard's a soft tossing lefty, ugh. Sox starting August will officially have a rotation of Beckett, Matsuzaka, Schilling, Wakefield, Lester

Sucks to hear about Donnelly but good to know the Sox are by his side during the long trip back. Kudos to Theo keeping that quiet

Bullpen:

Kyle Snyder

Julian Tavarez

Mike Timlin

One of those relievers (most likely Lopez or Snyder) will need to be moved when Curt comes back

congrats on the trade. gagne and Okajima give you guys the best setup combo in the business. If your starting pitching ever decides to stop throwing batting practice, you'll be odds-on favorites to rep the AL.
