The Allen trade on draft day was a give/take move that you really couldn't praise Ainge for. This, as a complimentary move to that, has made it so that Ainge has had one hell of an offseason. Pierce, Allen, and KG in the same lineup? Not bad.

I wonder if this trade would have happened (assuming it does) had the Celtics not made the Allen trade? I don't think Garnett would agree to resign in Boston if they didn't have 2 established all-stars. Also remember, the only time in Garnett's career he went anywhere in the playoffs was the year he had Sprewell and Cassell with him. Pierce and Allen are better than those 2.

That being said, part of me wonders if this situation will really work out. Are there enough basketballs to go around? Kinda reminds me of the Lakers a few years back, when they brought in Malone and Payton to go with Kobe and Shaq. That team made the Finals, but with a much better coach and probably better supporting cast. I could see the Celtics making the Finals unless LeBron or Wade somehow get significant help, which isn't likely. But I don't see them winning the Finals.

I really hope this deal goes through, just for the NBA's sake. Getting people to talk about anything other than Donaghy is a good thing for the league.

I am glad we are getting KG, but this is an awful steep price to pay...We lost half our team. I wish they could have kept either gomes, green, or the 2 1st rounders out of it. In addition the contract extention is said to be worth 5/125 which will put KG at 37 by the end of it.

BOSTON - The trade that will send Kevin Garnett to the Celtics won't become official on Monday, but it appears as though the Minnesota Timberwolves star is still bound for Boston.

According to multiple sources close to the situation, Danny Ainge and the Celtics are close to finalizing the deal that will bring the 10-time NBA All-Star from Minnesota in exchange for Al Jefferson, Theo Ratliff and his expiring contract, Gerald Green and Sebastian Telfair.

Ryan Gomes and a pair of 2009 first-round picks — including Minnesota's pick it owed the Celtics in the Ricky Davis-Wally Szczerbiak trade — may also be included in the deal to Minnesota.

One source said that an official announcement is expected Tuesday or Wednesday. Celtics spokesman Jeff Twiss told FOXSports.com that nothing would come from the organization on Monday.

A Celtics official told The Associated Press that the deal was done, pending some final details.

After 12 seasons in Minnesota, Kevin Garnett is about to head east.

According to sources, the reason why the deal wasn't able to be completed on Monday was because the Celtics were trying to finalize a multi-year contract with Garnett that would keep him in Boston beyond next season.

Garnett, the league's MVP in 2004, has the option to opt out of his contract — which pays $22 million next season — after the 2008 campaign and become a free agent.

Wolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale tried feverishly to obtain Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo in the deal. However, Celtics boss Danny Ainge held out from trading Rondo — who will likely be the team's starting floor leader this season.

Ainge tried unsuccessfully to acquire the 31-year-old Garnett prior to the NBA Draft, but was able to land Ray Allen from Seattle for the No. 5 overall pick, Delonte West and Szczerbiak on the night of the draft.

That may have changed things dramatically for Garnett, who had no interest in coming to Boston a month or so ago. Now with Paul Pierce and the 31-year-old Allen in the fold, Garnett has had a change of heart.

Garnett averaged 22.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game last season — his 12th in the NBA.

The primary factor with the deal — according to one source — was Garnett agreeing to a multi-year deal to remain in Boston. Garnett's agent, Andy Miller, declined to comment when reached by FOXSports.com on Monday.

Both teams, according to sources, are expected to kick in to Garnett's $6.75 million trade kicker.

The trade gives Ainge and the Celtics, who finished 24-58 last season, a team that could compete with anyone in the Eastern Conference. The 29-year-old Pierce missed 35 games a year ago due to injuries. With the trio of Pierce, Garnett and Allen, Boston would also have nearly $60 million in salaries between the three players for next season alone.

"There's no question that the Celtics could win the East," said one high-ranking NBA executive. "But they've got a lot of money tied up in those three players going forward."

i really dont want Gomes to be involved in this, and i dont think he will.

Good move for the short term, horrible for the long run. Giving up all those players and draft picks, the Celtics have about 2-3 years to win it all. After that, this team will be back to playing under 500 ball.

This isn't a horrible move for the future. Telfair is nothing special, Jefferson looks like he could be a hi quality player but is still unknown. All the others are mix and match players. No one of real value or big upside. Ya the 2 1st rounders will hurt our young crop, all this means is for the next couple yrs the C's will fill there voids via FA instead of the draft. This makes the C's relevant again, and I think Bill Simmons hit the nail on the head, all 3 of these guys want to win.

If we didn't do something soon Pierce was going to waste away right infront of us having been a great player that never got a chance to win a title, Pierce then would have left town via Ray Bourque( sorry for spelling, been awhile since I typed that name), and we might have had to endure watching another one of our teams great win a championship somewhere else.

Gerald Green has upside. Jefferson might end up being a dominant big man. Either way, the C's sealed their fate when they dealt for Allen. They were going all out for the immediate future while sacrificing the long term. This is a career saving move for Ainge, but it also may be a publicity saving move for the C's who have been nothing but awful since Pierce and Walker broke up the first time.

One other thing to note is that the C's could become a "pats like" team where aging vets will take a pay cut to play here because there is a good chance to get a ring, (sam cassell anyone)

Sam Cassell would be a great PG for this team. He would be an asst. machine, good D and his scoring would be a bonus.

Boston is looking like it could have a titletown year with the Sox' date=' Pats, and Celts.[/quote']

and BRUINS!!!!!

nah, they'll continue to suck, but atleast those 3 teams will be something to watch

The paperwork for the Kevin Garnett-to-Boston trade is in the process of being reviewed at the NBA office, according to the Boston Globe.

Because there are believed to be six players and a couple draft picks involved, along with the size of KG's contract, it could take awhile for the NBA's legal team to get through it all and make it official. But it sounds like the deal is going to happen and should be announced on Tuesday or Wednesday.

I heard on WEEI that this trade has been finalized and Garnett may be in town later today. He also signed a 3-year extension after his current contract expires, so the Celtics are guaranteed 5 years of Garnett.

Sox, Pats, and C's could all be championship-bound this season.

On a side note, how happy is david stern right now that the focus of the media on the NBA is this trade and not the mob fixing scandal.
