If there's one team that would give that type of money to a pitcher' date='who IMO best years are behind them, it's the New York Yankees.[/quote']

he's only 28 , he still has a few good years ahead, id give him a 5 year deal for 125

I would definitely NOT give him that money, as long as we have Beckett and Matsuzaka signed for less money. My bet is that he will end up signing for closer to 18-19m a season, which is much more reasonable. Santana is not worth 25 million a year. Sorry.

I think he absolutely is. I don't think it would be a good move for the Sox to invest that kind of cash in him, but I could see The Yankees doing it if A-rod opts out and they trade Abreu.

I agree. He isn't worth that to the Red Sox. There is a certain point where you are just paying for the name and less for the production. I think the Sox have two pitchers who will offer close to the same amount of production with much lower cost, or a similar cost combined.

He's the Rolls Royce of pitchers, I'm more than happy with a few upper end BMWs.

I don't think he is anywhere as dominant this year as in past years.

dont let his win loss record fool you ,look at his stats , its the same as the past few years

Johan Santana has a 40-4 record after the All Star break.....you give him the $25 million if you are the Red Sox.

Yes we have a excellent rotation but if you add Johan Santana to the Red Sox....you have hands down the best team in baseball and might break the record for most wins in a season. Not to mention you would walk away with another World Series.

Can you imagine trying to beat this team in a best-of-seven series? We'd be throwing out Beckett, Santana, and Matsuzaka back-to-back-to-back. Holy s***.

Exactly....you have to think about it....I don't have the numbers on the Red Sox salary but between Pedroia, Youkilis, Ellsbury, Papelbon, they don't make high figures. Possibly adding Buchholz and Lester to the rotation next season wouldn't cost anything. You dump Clement, Lowell, Schilling, Wakefield, maybe trade Crisp....there could be some nice savings to make a huge push for Santana I would think?

That would be a cool research project if someone could determine the Red Sox salary after this season.

If he opts out, I don't think it will be because he really wants out of NY. Economically, the Yankees can and probably will offer him the most money.

I garante hes going to the yankees

Fine with me. I don't really care if they nab Santana next year....they have too many problems for them to fix. Santana's obviously a step in the right direction, but he's not going to save them.

Damn! Imagine having a rotation of Beckett, Santana, DiceK, Buckholtz. To me that would rival those great roations of the early 70's down in Baltimore. PAlmer, McNally, Cuellar, Dobson.
