I was happy about the fought hard win last night, its just cmon guys you are better than these stats: 2 runs or less in 9 out of last 17 games, 2 HRs last 7 games (Hinske, Varitek) As we've seen this month, good pitching cant always save the day. Today Beckett looks to be the first 12 game winner in baseball and further cement that he should start the all-star game for the AL

Robinson Tejada (2 games vs Boston, 1-0 with a 3.27 ERA---Career at Fenway Park in 1 game, 9.00 ERA)

Dustin Pedroia, 0 for 4, Walk, K

Alex Cora, 2 for 2 (1.000 avg) Double, Triple

Jacoby Ellsbury, 1 for 2 (.500 avg)

///

Coco Crisp, 1 for 2 (.500 avg) Double, Walk

Julio Lugo, 0 for 3

Doug Mirabelli, 0 for 3, K

Josh Beckett (3 games vs Texas, 1-1 with a 4.74 ERA---Career at Fenway Park in 26 games, 12-8 with a 4.80 ERA)

Sammy Sosa, 2 for 9 (.222 avg) HR, RBI, 3 Ks

Frank Catalanotto, 3 for 12 (.250 avg) Double, 4 Walks, K

Marlon Byrd, 6 for 18 (.333 avg) Triple, 3 RBIs, 3 Walks, 6 Ks

Brad Wilkerson, 10 for 40 (.250 avg) 4 Doubles, Triple, 2 HRs, 5 RBIs, 10 Walks, 18 Ks, SB

Ellsbury batting 9th!!!!!

EDIT: EEI reporting Ellsbury has been called up and will be batting 9th and playing center. Coco may be going on the DL.

lol I thought you were joking before the edit. But nice I can't wait to see Jacoby out there. Unfortunate for Cocco though since he was doing so well.

Sox call up Ellsbury

By Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff

The Red Sox have called up outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury from Triple-A Pawtucket for tonight’s game against Texas. Ellsbury is in the lineup against the Rangers, will bat ninth, and will play center field.

To make room for Ellsbury, the Red Sox placed reliever Joel Pineiro on the 15-day disabled list with a sore ankle.

If it's just to cover a gap while Crisp mends, then why isn't it Murphy riding the Pawtuckett shuttle? Sure, he just got sent down, but with Piniero going on the DL for Jacoby to come up, it could have been Murphy. And Murphy has done everything he needs to be an injury stop-gap. No this smells like something bigger.

I think it's possible that they've come close to terms on a deal for Crisp, and now they are trying out the replacement.

Oh the Joy! Today's game has gone from a must-see Beckett start to an absolute must-see Ellsbury debut.

ORS I agree, at least to the degree that he will assuredly be up when the roster goes to 40 man. If nothing else he will get a look. If he tears it up there is no doubt he can spark this lineup.

Holy s***! I just heard the news about Ellsbury :) I was sure he wouldnt get called up until September... perhaps Coco is hurt much more than originally thought? Josh Beckett looks for his major league leading 12th win of the season, same game that Ellsbury makes his major league debut

I yelled out "Yes" so loud that my cats ran madly downstairs

Portland

17 games- 33 for 73 (.452 avg) (.518 obp) (.644 slg) (1.162 ops) 10 Doubles, 2 Triples, 13 RBIs, 16 Runs, 6 Walks, 7 Ks, 8 for 9 SBs

Pawtucket

50 games- 57 for 206 (.277 avg) (.352 obp) (.354 slg) (.707 ops) 8 Doubles, 4 Triples, 11 RBIs, 36 Runs, 22 Walks, 26 Ks, 21 for 26 SBs

2007

67 games- 90 for 279 (.323 avg (.396 obp) (.430 slg) (.826 ops) 18 Doubles, 6 Triples, 24 RBIs, 49 Runs, 28 Walks, 33 Ks, 29 for 35 SBs

Like Pedroia, the Sox have themselves another young hitter with great plate patience

That rule doesn't apply if he is replacing someone going on the DL (Piniero).

Alright, then you could very well be correct. Maybe Coco and someone else in a deal for Lidge, Otsuka, or Gagne?

Lidge is on the DL.

The 15 days have passed and he's scheduled to come back right after the break. I would imagine any deal is forthcoming, not imminent.

That said, there's no fit. Pence is a stud, so they don't need a CF. My thinking is Crisp's resurgence may have sparked interest. The White Sox need a CF and are looking to deal Buehrle. It's a fit for both teams. If Jacoby's ready, can see the Sox giving up Crisp for a 3 month rental of the lefty.

I thought they signed him to an extension.

Anyways, if I'm the Sox I would pull the trigger on that deal anyways. Even if Jacoby isn't ready we can give Wily Mo a shot.
