I thought they signed him to an extension.

Anyways, if I'm the Sox I would pull the trigger on that deal anyways. Even if Jacoby isn't ready we can give Wily Mo a shot.

They are nearing a 5-year extension worth a little bit north of $50 million, whats holding it up currently is the White Sox's reluctancy to Buehrle's asking of a no trade clause

I turned the TV on and some guy was butchering the anthem. Why was he singing it?
I was joking about Theo's brother. I don't know who the guy was.

I know you were, lol. That's why I said "some guy." Maybe he had some issue...the fans were helping him through it instead of booing him for butchering it.

It's nice to see times like that when people have heart and act with grace and compassion.

If it's just to cover a gap while Crisp mends, then why isn't it Murphy riding the Pawtuckett shuttle? Sure, he just got sent down, but with Piniero going on the DL for Jacoby to come up, it could have been Murphy. And Murphy has done everything he needs to be an injury stop-gap. No this smells like something bigger.

I think it's possible that they've come close to terms on a deal for Crisp, and now they are trying out the replacement.

I thought the exact same thing when I learned Ellsbury was up. .296 over his last 30 something games in pawtucket, he made the adjustment and hit in AAA very well after a rough start. Wily Mo would have been fine over a few days while Coco healed, we've seen him in CF on consecutive nights more than once. Murphy could have done it, hell if it was just a cup of coffee Michael Tucker could have done it!

Caveat: Everything I am about to say has no factual basis what so ever and is purely my own hunch.

I think Kenny Williams is a genius. It's my suspicion that Williams was losing value for Buehrle (known from here on out as MB because typing Buehrle sucks) because it was widely viewed as a neccessity for him to deal MB because he was very very likely to walk at the end of the season. So, he employed 2 genuis tactics. Remember what we all thought MB could be acquired for before all this trade talk? A lot of people thought spare parts could get it done, maybe one of Hansen or Delcarmen in there...

Since then, we have all been estimating it taking a Lester or an Ellsbury. Thats because Kenny asked for the world. Bucholz, Ellsbury and change. No budge. The Sox broke off talks. I think Kenny purposely asked for way more than MB was worth, and generated some extension talk leaked by the White Sox to drum up some more value and get an everyday player for now and a top prospect for later. I still the Red Sox are the most likely destination for MB for a couple of factors. By all accounts, Atlanta, The Mets, and Boston stepped to the forefront when it all started and I think those are still the teams in the fray... out of those three Boston can put together the best package. If the Sox stepped up and offered Coco, Lester, Murphy and Hansen I think that might get done and hate to say this, I think the Sox would offer that and would not be surprised if a year or two from now we all wished we had a couple of those guys particularly Lester and Hansen.

So all fabricated ******** aside, I think Coco might be on the block right now and the only guy out there who makes sense to be on the Sox radar is MB, unless something is going down with the Astros... There have been qualls rumors and I don't think the Sox are too interested in Qualls hes basically Brenden Donnelly... Every year we think we know the guys that are available and on the Sox wish list and it always turns out something goes down off of everyones radar or we find out later like last year when the Sox were close to acquiring Oswalt that there is a ton going on that never hits the news papers. I wouldn't mind another Oswalt rumor though.

Any way the Sox can convince Texas to resign Teixira and then deal for Michael Young instead? Trade Lugo, + money for lugo, + pitching prospect (lester or Bowden)? Is that too much to give up for Young? He seems like he would be a great fit for the Sox.

Usually I'm in the "keep lugo" crowd, but with Young playing against the Sox recently it is hard not to at least think about it when we know Texas needs pitching.

That's quite a package for Buehrle, but I would offer it for Oswalt in a heartbeat. I don't know who they are offering in a package for Buehrle, but I suspect (hoping) that something is in the works.

Does Manny look different to anyone else? It just seems like he's watching some of the pitches that he was cranking last year. It also looks like he may have lost some bat speed.

He has clearly lost some bat speed. There are times when a fastball is definitely coming and he can't catch up to it. It has looked pretty clear for awhile. He is still a very effective hitter, but he appears to be trying to spray hits to RF more often.

I'm not going to worry about Manny losing a little bat speed. He is given little credit for his hitting IQ. He's been making adjustments all along. I'm sure that he has lost a little bat speed, and the slider is also giving him more trouble, but he still finds a way to wait for his pitch and crush it.

Re: Manny's bat speed. A big component of bat speed is pitch recognition. The bat is going to be slow when it takes longer to know what it is. That, along with him taking some pitches he normally deposits into the bleachers, has me thinking he might just need to get his eyes checked.
