Seattle just traded Ray Allen to Boston for the #5 pick and a couple of players. There was also a rumor they might trade Luke Ridnour to Atlanta for the #11. If they do that, they'll need a PG and might take Conley if Memphis passes on him. I think Yi is a top-5 player, but if Atlanta opts for Horford, Memphis already has an Yi-like player in Gasol and Seattle will have Durant, Lewis and Wilcox down low and might need another guard, so this could shake things up a little.

ESPN is reporting that a deal that would send Ray Allen to the Celtics for the No. 5 pick, Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West is close to becoming a reality.

Stay tuned on this one. Allen definitely gives Paul Pierce some much needed help, but it's hard to say how many years Allen has left. There were earlier rumors that the Sonics wanted Rajon Rondo, causing the Celtics to demand Robert Swift, but as of now, it sounds like the deal may be ready to happen as mentioned above. Moving Szczerbiak and West would help clear up the logjam at shooting guard in Boston, where Allen would immediately step in. Jun. 28 - 6:59 pm et

great trade, except i dont really like the idea of trading Delonte. But overall, id make the deal and give the celtics a legit #2 scorer.

allen isnt worth the number five pick, let alone delonte and wally, but i like it i think

rondo/telfair

allen/allen

pierce/green

gomes/scal

al/perk

we still need depth with our bigs and a point guard and maybe some more experience

it also takes a lot of pressure of tony allen to come back and be like he was last year right away.

Love the trade.

You can't double Pierce and Allen at the same time.

Pierce/Allen/Jefferson has the potential to become a huge offensive trio led by Rajon Rondo.

Also, if it doesn't work out, in a few years the contracts won't be a burden anymore and you can build around Big Al while he's in his prime.

Telfair, Ratliff, Scalabrine dont really seem to have a spot

love the pruitt pick, i was thinking they would have gone with taurean green, but i think pruitt has more upside than green does.

danny did work tonight.

dont be surprised to see ratliff, telfair, and/or someone else traded soon as well

C's have way too many wing players and undersized forwards IMO. Trade for a 7 footer; don't get sucked into small ball

could Ratliff, Gomes, Telfair and next years first get us Kirilenko?

Rondo/Pruit/Ray

Allen/Allen

Pierce/Green

Kirilenko/Davis/Powe

Jefferson/Perk

not bad

Ainge may be trying to impress Garnett, by getting another veteran star.

Garnett for Al, Gerald, Ratliff, Scalabrine and maybe a draft pick next year works out contract wise...

Rondo/Pruit/Ray

Allen/Allen

Pierce/???(FA)

That team better win the whole thing next year.

I was about to post a scenario like that. I can't even imagine that...

..or something like Gerald/Theo/picks for Jermaine O'Neal

Starting lineup of Rondo/Allen/Pierce/Jermaine O'Neal/Big Al. MMMMMMMMM.

it easilly would, Boston.com seems to agree with me...

But the true value of the trade may be in what Boston avoided giving away. The Celtics still have Theo Ratliff’s expiring contract and Al Jefferson. Prior to the draft, executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge acknowledged that he planned to remake the Celtics during the offseason. The draft undoubtedly marks the start of a makeover that could stretch until training camp.

With big-name players such as Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O’Neal, and Shawn Marion still available, the Celtics kept assets that could attract teams such as Minnesota, Indiana, and Phoenix. Garnett could resurface as a possible addition with the courtship of the Timberwolves forward beginning anew July 1. The addition of Allen could make Garnett look at the Celtics’ situation differently than before the draft, when he was reluctant to join Pierce and a collection of young talent.

While news of the trade and the acquisition of Allen did not excite fans gathered for the team’s draft party last night at TD Banknorth Garden, the combination of, let’s say, Pierce, Allen, and Garnett certainly would. But if Boston still has Garnett in its sights, the team will face tough competition from several other teams. The combination of Pierce, Allen, and Jefferson perhaps will be a slight improvement from last season. Obviously, adding a third veteran piece would set the stage for a significant leap.

That easily?

They might make the NBA Finals, but the Mavericks, Spurs, and Suns are still pretty tough teams.

and if Indy really wants to move O'Neal, the deal doesn't hurt them to bad. they already are a s***** team and the move would help them rebuild

hahaha ya i know, but i think they would be the favorites in the East. Although im not sure who would be able to guard Lebron

I love this trade. I said it in the Draft thread when it went down. But now, getting KG will involve Al Jefferson. So getting him subtracts Al. Also, Theo Ratliff is NOT worth s***. At all. So I agree to get someone like O'Neal or KG would involve Gerald Green, and VERY likely Al Jefferson plus more smaller pieces like picks or expiring contracts. If Ainge isn't done yet with his dealing, and tries for JO or KG, the more likely is O'Neal. But I'm thinking Al Jefferson is going to be the centerpiece in either of those trade possibilities. Otherwise, Danny Ainge is a smarter man than we all thought.

Danny Ainge should be shanked with a screwdriver. This is an awful trade. The Celtics werent one player away. They were a whole team away. And as a UConn fan, Ray Allen is one of my favorites, but he isnt the high flying all star he once was. He's an injury prone quality but not spectacular player. Add that to another injury prone guy on the decline and this trade could bite Ainge in the ass for yrs to come. Sigh /puts-on-paper-bag-with-holes-cut-out-for-eyes.

Guys you're retarded.

Why in the hell would we trade Al for Garnett?

Say we do that and nothing works out. Who exactly do we have to build around? Exactly, no one. Al needs to say, give him a year or two he'll be better than Garnett.

Posted
Garnett is not the way to go here. We're building a team with a strong, young foundation. Why would we trade that away? Besides, it's not like Jeff is a f***ing push-over. He'll be doing for the Celtics next year what Garnett could do (maybe more). Garnett can't be the focal point of a young team like this. You have to go young, and stay young.

C's front office is rudderless. Completely fkn rudderless.

What happened to "building" a championship team? This is a quick fix that will make the team better in the short-run but that's about it. I find it very hard to get excited about the Celtics potential rise from the cellar to mediocrity.

Now yes, if they add another player at or near Garnett's level, they'll be poised to win a round or two in the playoffs, but still, they're not going to be good enough or deep enough to truly contend.

Way to go Ainge. Way to cave in to Paul Pierce, or were you simply trying to save your own job by rising up to the ranks of the also-rans?

-This just in: the c's still can't play defense!

-Last year there were several games where they shot over 50% from the field, and still lost.

-Ray Allen had double ankle surgery in February

-Bracing myself for Danny trading Al:angry:
