What makes you guys think this team can't be good?

Walker and Pierce led us to the finals with a bunch of role players.

Allen and Pierce are a much better and more efficient tandem right now than Walker and Pierce were. We have a low post presence right now in Jefferson that we didn't have back then.

People aren't giving Allen enough credit.

This team can be very good.

Because Allen's coming off of surgery on both ankles. He's not the kind of player that is going to kill anybody off of the dribble anymore, and the surgeries certainly aren't going to help that. He's a jump shooter... a damn good one... but he's a jump shooter. And he and Paul Pierce are going to demand touches and, in my opinion, it's going to retard the growth of Jefferson. I just don't see this is a good move for the Celtics. It's a panic move. Granted, I don't watch the Celtics much, but I don't see where Ray Allen fits. It's a 45 win team in the East.

Al Jefferson had the exact same surgery last year and look how he bounced back.

Allen has said multiple times that his ankles are fine, and I believe that. Allen will have no injury problems in Boston bar for maybe one small one that costs him a few games at the most. He'll be playing 70+ games.

But Jefferson's so much younger. I don't think he'll be injury prone or anything, I just think it'll cost him a lot of what was left of his ability to beat people off the dribble. I didn't get to watch him play much last year, but from what I saw he's not nearly as capable of putting the ball on the floor and beating people like that as he used to be. The surgeries can't help. And I think the touches that Ray Allen demands, and therefore, Jefferson doesn't get, will retard Jefferson's growth. Like I said, he's a great jump shooter -- but that's what he is at this point -- a jump shooter.

We don't need him off the dribble. Pierce is perfectly fine beating guys off the dribble, you're acting like all he can do is stand there and wait for a pass, but with Rondo's playmaking abilities I think Allen could be a very good slasher, great coming off picks, etc. A guy with the PG skills like Rondo will make Allens game so much more multi dimensional because of the ways he can get looks for Allen.

Ray Allen is Grant Hill essentially. His injury history is about to worsen. He has shown all the signs as the past few seasons he has been beaten up and needed a few surgeries and weeks off to heal. The Celts are getting him in the twilight of his career.

Life after 30 isn't necessarily going to be that bleak for Ray Allen. So the Celtics decided that a team that gets around 50 wins for the next 3 years, with Rondo and Jefferson to build upon, is better than a team that would be mediocre, and have Rondo, West, the #5, and Jefferson to build upon.

Would you rather have the Celtics continue through a few more years of mediocrity, only to get back to the point they were this past offseason?

I can't blame KG for not wanting to come somewhere that hasn't been a playoff contender for some time. Once the Celtics start getting in the playoffs and making some noise, it will get a lot easier for them to bring in free agent talent.
