Curt Schilling (shoulder) won't resume throwing this week, seemingly ruling out a return before the All-Star break.

"Basically the program stays what it is and he will be reevaluated on Monday at home, with the hope that things are progressing to the point where he can throw," manager Terry Francona said. "He can throw now, but I think they want him to reach certain levels with testing. All the things we said the other day remain true. We want him to be able to finish the season being a consistent, good pitcher. That's why we're trying to use good judgment." Schilling hasn't been very happy about management's decision to baby him, but it'll probably work out for the best. Kason Gabbard will make at least one more start in his place. Jun. 27 - 2:53 pm et

Schilling also needs to shut up and just do what's asked of him without running his mouth and complaining about the decisions. I know he hates to realize it, but him being on the DL and getting healthy while the Sox have such a large lead in the East is what's best for this team right now.

10+ game lead....stay home, shut up and get your old ass healthy for the stretch run.

It's nice to know that he'll be raking in millions while he's home video gaming and blogging all day...

would you rather have him start now at 75% when you have a 9+ game lead (when most say you're going to win the division anyway) or would you rather have him in october at 90%-100%?

Well, to be accurate....we will never have 100% of the 2004 Schilling again.......and if what we saw earlier this season was Schilling at 100% of his 2007 ability, then theres no way he can be sent on the mound if hes not 100%, or else wed be screwed.

If he goes 13-8 with a 4.50 ERA or better Ill be happy, but after watching a couple of his bad starts early in the year, mixed with his starts after his 1-hitter, I am not too optimistic about the guy....and it sucks because I really like the guy.

I'm glad he'll be out for so long. I want him to rest up for later this season down the stretch. He's only going to miss possibly 5-7 more starts. At worst we lose 4 of those games. With Schilling and being optimistic, we lose 2 of those games. Thats only a 2 game difference. I think Schilling is worth the wait.

This is the best time for this to happen. The Sox have a nice lead in the East, and the AS break is close. Even if he won't admit it, the extra rest can only help him. His problem with it i'm sure, is that this is going to show other teams some durability problems, which can only hurt him in this yrs FA market.

Rehabbing in Pawtuckett tonight. So far....

2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K

More please.

EDIT:

I think he's only going 3, so this is probably the final line....

3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K

pretty good line there, cant ask for anything more. once eh gets back up to the big club he should re-stabalize us with 5 solid pitchers

Stats in the last month

Josh Beckett 3-2, 33 IP, 39 Ks, 4.09 ERA

Daisuke Matsuzaka 3-2, 38 IP, 38 Ks, 3.55 ERA

Curt Schilling ----------

Tim Wakefield 3-2, 30.2 IP, 13 K, 6.16 ERA

Kason Gabbard 3-0, 29.1 IP, 25 Ks, 3.38 ERA

Once Wake gets into his next hotstreak, that staff looks pretty formidable and we should jump out of playing .500 ball.

I say when he comes back he replaces Tavarez. No way in hell Gabbard gets the boot at this point. He completely fools hitters with his offspeed stuff. Hate to say it, but at this point I compare him to a Glavine or Jamie Moyer Circa 2003. He really screws with hitters minds and with a solid D behind him he gets it done.

A few pictures I took from the game last night. Schill was on, topped out at 95 and had a very tight splitter going. He probably could have pitched the whole game if not for the pitch count.

There are 2 separate questions. There needs to be a roster move, as well as a starting rotation move. Z isn't starting.

Who leaves the rotation? Wake? On paper, that's my vote but having Wakefield come in from the pen causes other problems. Change the whole battery?

it'll be Gabbard or Lester, no doubt.
