I can't fault the O too much on this one. Sure, they were pretty inept when opportunities arose, but they also put a lot of good wood on the ball and made some loud outs. Sometimes the ball just doesn't find a hole.

Another thing that has gone unmentioned is this. They win if Coco plays that ball smarter. I love the all-out effort, but that just wasn't the right pllay at the time. There were two outs, nobody on. That should be held to a single, and if it's a single, Seattle doesn't score.

we are looking like a very flawed team right now

Every team looks flawed. Most of them lok much more flawed than the Red Sox.

I understanding getting frustrated with the offense's performance. So we wrapped up a road trip where we went 4-5, winning two series and losing one.

This offense absolutely revolves around Ortiz and Manny, and they are both under producing. They are doing some good things, in terms of getting on base, but they need to be driving the ball. Manny simply hasn't been driving the ball. He is ineffective against good fastballs, which is not a great place to be in for this team.

So what does this team do?

Move Lowell and minor leaguers for an offensive upgrade at 1B or 3B?

Move Crisp or WMP for offensive help?

Move prospects (top level: Lester, Ellsbury) for offensive help (Teixeira, A. Jones)?

Or is all this over-reaction?

I'm just happy if he didn't injure his finger.

All of this is unnecessary. What they should do is make a move to bolster the rotation or the bullpen.

This offense is sucking. Peroid. Right now, if our 3-4-5-6 hitters don't warm up, we could very well face ending the season without a single guy reaching 30HR. That's pretty f***ing pathetic.

It wasn't the right play at the time, but he gets those sometimes. If he makes that catch it's an amazing play. I agree that it was the wrong move, but not a boneheaded play by any stretch. He dove for it and didn't get it with two outs and nobody on... it--like having hard hit balls that don't fall in--happens. :dunno:

I actually think that because this team isn't in dire need of a victory the biggest deal about today's game is Daisuke Matsuzaka's continued strong performance. He looks like all of us hoped he would. He is hitting spots down down down, and mixing his pitches very well. He has balanced out at around 92-93 in warm weather, and was letting it fly in Arizona (I believe) and hitting 95 occasionally. His other stuff has been filthy and he is really staying around the plate and not being hit hard at all. He has given up 6 runs in his last 5 starts (34 IP), striking out 42. This guy's WHIP should be sitting around 1.00, if not for his extraordinary amount of walks in bad innings, which he should come around to control very soon.

I'm very pleased by his performance of late.

I say both. I'm not confident in what they will have in Schilling when he returns ...**cough**Jason Schmidt**cough**

I think the only prospect that should get tagged untouchable is Buchholz. This is a go year. Ellsbury, Lester, and Bowden, while all nice looking prospects, are replacable in the draft.

It's pretty rediculous too. Over 8 innings, dice-k only gave up 3 hits, the first that should have only been a single or at worst double, but ended up as a triple because Coco tried to do too much. Then a weak blooper to shallow CF for an RBI single. Our offense were all over the bases, but couldn't score. How do you lose a game like this?

With the major difference, of course, being that you can't choose to not have hard hit balls fall in. You can choose to dive or play safe. In a 0-0 game, 2-outs, nobody on, you play for no extra bases.

dice regularly lost games like this in Japan. He's okay. He seems like a team player who just wants his team to win, and when they don't by no fault of his own, he doesn't make a big deal out of it.

There's also a chance he traps it, knocks it down in front of him or catches it.

Again, I agree it wasn't the right move, but this team needed to be able to score 2 runs in the first 8 innings and did not do it.

All I'm saying is that this wasn't the same as Crisp's climbing the wall 30 feet away from where the ball hit the fence last year. :D

Manny should have caught that. Juan Pierre would have.

A number of OF in the league would have caught that ball. But they weren't out there and it is what it is.

Thank God we're out of Seattle. We're still AT LEAST 10.5 when we play tomorrow despite being swept. I love it.

Today's a new day and I feel better. We never ever ever ever ever win in Seattle. I really don't know what the problem is. Anyway, get back home and start winning again.

JP wouldn't have caught it. It was an antagonistic joke. Tough loss for the Sox. I needed that W.

Joke or not, my point was that there are SOME OFs who would have made that play, however we have what we have. I'll take Manny's bat over that ball being caught in June.
